almost as if i had trouble fitting them into one track... i did.
been working on melodic transitions a lot though, something i feel is severely lacking in modern edm.

Re: bassinine - a stranger (original)
thanks for the listen man, i mean, the chords and progression is what i really worked on. have to say though, i wanted the kick to sound like that. didn't want much snap, just an 808 and punchy kick layered and low-passed (then some ny comp). kinda wanted the kick to sound more like pop music kicks....

Re: bassinine - a stranger (original)
thanks for listening man! yeah, i probably didn't spend as much time with the mix down as i could have. kinda hard for me when there's like 15 layers to niche everything out. mainly been working with my composition, trying to make it a little more classical in style - which is why it changes so much...

Re: Chord Progressions?
yes, a lot of songs are built around 1 progression. does that mean you have to, or even SHOULD, use only one progression? no, shit no, man. i mean, in blues songs it's almost always 1-4-5.. but there are plenty of change ups and creative differences in the composition (this is the difference between...

Re: Sub bass level
really depends on the track. although generally speaking you want between -16dB and -10 dB (-10 being VERY loud in the mix). personally, i mix to around -12dB on the sub - AFTER 4dB of saturation and a 12db/oct low pass AROUND 100hz. if you're losing headroom get the sub to duck for the kick... unle...

bassinine - roots
hey guys, been a while... anyways, recently finished this EDM track... kinda. it's a different style for me and is really build with vocals in mind. therefore, i'm kinda out of my comfort zone... so i would REALLY appreciate any constructive criticism that you may have... especially you vets. https:...

Re: Sub Bass Techniques
the only difference between the two techniques is starting with a sine wave vs starting with an 808 kick. my understanding of creating a typical 808 sub bass stems from using a few cycles from the tail of an 808 kick. seems like you're just saturating a "clean" sine wave, pitch bending th...

Re: Sub Bass Techniques
808's are easy. sine wave. pitch bend +12 semitones, .5ms attack, 500 ms decay. amp envelope, 6-8 second decay from full volume to nothing. saturate it 4db, lowpass around 80hz and boost a tiny bit around 50-60hz so that the higher notes aren't as (apparently) loud as the lower notes. layer it with ...

Re: Sub Bass Techniques
plain sine. 3-5 db saturation, high-pass to taste. if you want to change it up add some pitch bends/glides/env's. pretty much all there is to it. mimicking refers to having your sub bass play the same melody as your mids. and you can gate it if you want, but volume automations/envelopes always soun...

Re: Anyone have a Virus TI?
I used to have a Virus TI Snow , but like so many hardware synths I sold it because it wasn't as good as Omnisphere ! The famous hyper-saw was the most disappointing aspect of my Virus experience. The effects are very good, but that's not enough I wouldn't recommend buying a Virus under any circums...

Re: "distant" hiphop kick sounds
^^^ You mean low-passing. I agree, it sounds highly low-passed, then reverbed. Also try chopping the transient off the kick sample? yeah, god damn, I've been ally bad about that lately... Saying high pass instead of high-cut or low pass... Whoops. but yeah, your idea later is a good one too, reverb...

Re: Making good sounding basses in massive.
here's the trick, don't try to form the bass in one particular way. have a bass patch that changes, from having too much high-end and being harsh, to filtering that away, to changing the oscillator's while a long note is playing. the bass in this arcade fire remix i did is pretty much just a plain r...

Re: "distant" hiphop kick sounds
throw a return track on with a ton of reverb and LOW-passing to make it sound distant i would think. seeing as how that's what happens when you hear something far away, get more reverberations and the high-end loses power fastest. then, keep your send track the same, and add some parallel comp to ke...

Re: Do people actually use midi controllers to produce?
whatever feels more natural to you, mang. some need keys and knobs to write, some don't.
it's never a bad thing to map out some parameters and jam with hardware though - because you'll come up with totally different riffs/sounds than if you programmed it just using your daw and a rack.

Re: Do you put at LFO on your Sub underneath wobbles?
i make my 'wobbles' by chopping up and glitching straight notes. no wrong way.mthrfnk wrote:hahah.Proctra wrote:Making a more subtle calvin harris effect in disguise.

Re: [POLL] Serial VS. Parallel compression...
question: if i had a compressor with a dry/wet knob on it...and i pulled the knob to about 50% or whatever. would that now be parallel compression ? Technically, I think so, but I tend to think of parallel as 100% dry with extra compressed signal running along side (parallel) of the dry. It's purpo...

Re: [POLL] Serial VS. Parallel compression...
Serial is one slightly compressed signal into another compressor? yea. use the first one to tame the peaks, then send the signal into the second one which is most likely one that has a nice character but would start pumping if you didn't catch the peaks with the first one. he means just putting it ...
