Re: Producing electronic music as a hobby-- explain this to
I think for a lot of people, myself included, it's not a straight up choice to do it as a hobby as a necessity if you are going to do it at all, as making any money at music is notoriously difficult to impossible even if you are good, then add to that the fact that most people are not very good and ...

I'm not a Babylonian :( yes you are..Anyone who is Muslim, Christian, or Jewish can trace their roots to ancient Babylonia. so you could and probably should go as far as to say anyone can be traced back to sumerians as they are the ones that wrote half the old testament and then later were conquere...

Re: On heavily sample-based production
Have you never heard of drum breaks? I'm sure a lot of the referenced artists use breaks as well as other drums. It helps a lot if you have a ton of breaks to look through and pick n choose kicks n snares you like. As far as copywrite they are not going to be able to tell if you used a drum hit fro...

Re: On heavily sample-based production
they generally only go after you for sampling if your music is making money because then they can get a cut, people generally don't want to spring for lawyers and court costs to just stop someone from using a sample of their stuff in a free internet track as there's nothing to gain for them. which i...

Re: Logic for PC?
macs are only "a lot more" than pc's depending on the model you're talking about. a mac pro desktop yes is very fucking expensive, it also has xeon chips in it edging some more horsepower than you'd get in comprable pc's, but they're definitely for the money is no object crowd. but if you ...

Re: Making music people don't understand...
music being shit is opinion not fact. there are many people into noise whereas most people would consider it "shit", one persons opinion is no more valid than another. there are always more mainstream things than others which will appeal to more people, but if you go by numbers of people w...

Re: creating a small studio
ok first here's some backround story, i produce with another dude and currently we can only jam once a week. We feel we need to step things up and the only way to do this is to have a small dedicated studio. I've got a budget of about 15k and im just wondering about some things i might need to know...

What other EDM/dubstep websites/forums/etc. do you frequent?
i pretty much look at this forum and dogs on acid sometimes, used to look at drum n bass arena and we are the music makers a bit, but don't really know of much outside of those, i figure there's probably more interesting places for me to kill time looking at at work, so if anyone can suggest any oth...

Re: Life Dilemmas (producing vs normal jobs)
In 2011 i was finishing up school, so i was working so it gave me a huge amount of time to improve my skills in ableton and songwriting. Just about when our songwriting began to take off, i started working an excellent, well paying job and i really like it. It would be hard for me to quit my job, e...

i don't see being able to run anything on it. my mom has like an 8 year old lampshade g4 imac (several generations newer than the one you're talking about) and it can't even use the new itunes, nothing new will run on it.
