Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
I am back with yet another question trying to figure out this Ableton Live mystery. When I load up a bunch of different synths into one sampler, how do I go on about adding different effects to the different synths? Like you loaded them into one rack? There are 3 different buttons on the far left s...

Re: My thoughts on "Brostep" and the state of the genre.
Yep, you caught me there. I was referring to Electro House. Today I learned that there was an existing genre called Electro. It was just an example anyways, and doesn't change the point of the post.

Dreadfunk - Red Wire Mid Tempo Banger
This isn't strictly dubstep, but I hope you all like it anyways. It's a mid-tempo banger with some cool horns, and a really dirty bassline. Enjoy!

My thoughts on "Brostep" and the state of the genre.
Adapted from a reply I made to a post: The TLDR crowd can read the last paragraph. It's indisputable that a lot of the heavier, mid range, high energy tunes that are so popular these days have deviated so much that they are no longer in the same ballpark as the deeper or more sub heavy tunes. This d...

Re: Is this honestly considered brostep?
- I don't hate brostep, i just think its changed too much to be referred to as dubstep anymore. Fair enough, but you do have to understand where I'm coming from. There are a lot of people who like to be Dubstep elitists, and you came off as one. I stand corrected if that was a false assessment. Eit...

Re: Is this honestly considered brostep?
Like it or not, the "high pitched" stuff you like to complain about IS dubstep. The term has evolved past what you want it to define, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. This is the nature of language. As far as poorly produced brostep... well you aren't listening to the ri...

Re: sound quality in Ableton live while DJing
1. What soundcard are you using?
2. What algorithm are you using to warp tracks (complex, beats, etc)
Ableton's sound engine is more than capable of producing high quality output. It's most likely a problem with either of these two things.

Re: Is this honestly considered brostep?
Who cares? Make what you like and don't worry about what other people want to call it. Brostep is a derogatory term; it really has very little meaning other than for some people to bash on a style of music they don't like. It's kinda like if I went around calling the "deep" tunes Snorestep...

Re: DJs- How do you organize your mp3's?
iTunes with smart playlists based on Genre, BPM, Mood, rating, energy level etc. Serato can access all my itunes playlists so it works really well. I also tend to use a lot of search tags so that I can just type random stuff into the search bar while I'm DJing to find something with a particular feel.

Re: Walking your own path
While agree with the sentiment, often emulation is the best form of education. Every guitar player gets good by copying the techniques of his heroes, and EDM production is no different. A lot of people are still learning, and it's the best way to do that IMO. Your own style develops over time as you...

I definitely understand where you're coming from, and I agree there is definitely similarity between the music he creates under both aliases. Like you said, it had a lot to do with the persona of the mau5trap label, but you'll also notice a difference in the way he writes music under both monikers,...

he's targeting two separate demographics with each style, the at-home listener and the dancefloor freakshow. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this point. Both of his monikers contain tracks that could fall under both of those headings; so much so that I don't know which one yo...

Almost always with a basic drum pattern, and then I start on my main lead. I can't really put synth sounds in context without some sort of drum beat.

It might be pitch bend. Not sure what you're using, but I know ableton sometimes gets stuck in a pitch bend.

Re: Bass processing for loudness?
Saturation is a good way to squeeze some volume out of a sound without using a compressor. But as some have said, just turn it up. If you have your drums where you want them, then mix the rest of the tune around the drums. If you're going into the red after adding mid-range bass, then you may need t...

Re: Bogged down
You'll build up a library of patches and samples as times goes on, but for me I like to write tunes before I design them. I find it makes for a better song, but it takes a little more creativity. I like to get all the notes down using basic synths, so if I want a crunchy saw sound I'll just plop a r...
