I can't decide if listening to my older tunes gives me confidence that I can actually make good music or if it just makes me hate everything I'm working on now even more.

Use samples from old drum breaks, layer stuff with tape/vinyl noise, leave some of the 200-500Hz range a little muddy, and try compressing and limiting things a little more than you usually would with a nice dirty compressor.

I don't think master reverbs have any application aside from some special effects. Can someone saying they do it post a tune? I'd be interested to hear what it does.
