Re: Distorted guitars
just record them yourself if you can't find a sample that works. preferable with a good sounding guitar and amp. Do some research before on how to do it (get an sm57 and put it directly on the speaker in between the cone and driver basically) Spend time getting a good tone, don't distort too much (u...

Re: Mastering/Masterbus make bettering
I've noticed that a lot of professional tracks DO have highend cuts It is highly unlikely that they are filtering out the high end on the stereo bus. I've heard of people low passing up above the range of hearing (20k and up), but not anwhere new 14k-16k. you just lose a bit of that hissy shit on t...

I work mainly in pro tools, it sucks for automation. Ableton live has the tightest automation of any daw that I've personally used.

Re: Let's talk about analog summing
it does make a difference, and the dangerous labs stuff is great but there are definitely other things that will make a bigger difference for the amount of money one of those cost. for example: quality monitoring environment (soundproofing, room tuning etc), good monitors, good plugins, good preamps...

Re: The NI Massive Q&A Thread
Harpolodic - one of the most complex, but also (imo) the most beautiful preset in massive. That synth in itself inspired me to write a song for my missus :P really cool w/ the two comb filters in parallel, using lfo to detune the pitch slightly, key tracking gives the lower notes more attack while ...

I'm way into the Beyerdynamic DT 770's now, amazingly accurate bass response for headphones

Re: EQing Drums ?
also, finding a kick that is at the same pitch of the root of the song will make it sit a little better in general, but you dont always get lucky with that, and pitching it around can ruin the sound of the kick itself

Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
biggest difference is mic isolation from the floor and any resonant frequencies with the stand itself. If you're using a tripod stand you'll still get rumbling from the floor/ people walking and stuff. Also, the stand itself can kind of resonate if it doesnt' isolate correctly. You can easily tell t...

Re: EQing Drums ?
sounds like the lowend of your kick is making the sub fart out a bit. maybe highpass your kick slightly (up to 60-70hz) or what I do a lot is automate the volume of the sub to drop out when the kick hits (does the same thing as sidechaining compression). this way you dont have to sub frequences play...
