Re: Song Creativity.

SAMPLES! Nothing like flipping through a sample library and stumbling on something that gives you a place to start or sparks an idea. Flip through melody loops, chord hits, 1 shots, and drag anything you find interesting into your workspace and go from there. Most of my projects start now with 10+ c...

Re: Just found my first bad room...

Just moved and my rooms acoustics are terrible too. So I just listened to a lot of music to get used to how it sounds, and now I'm well adjusted 8)

Re: How do you process your cymbals/rides?

Every time I read a thread like this on DSF I feel like everyone over processes the shit out of everything... My thoughts exactly, but I was doing the same thing at one time so I get it. At some point though you realize that the tiny changes you are agonizing over don't actually have any effect on ...

Re: How do you process your cymbals/rides?

I usually don't do anything to my rides, maybe I'll EQ some lows out but 9/10 I just find a good sample chuck it, lower the volume, and keep it moving. Finding a sample that fits the track you're making is 99% of the battle. Everything else (unless you're reverb/delaying for effect) just seems like ...

Re: College and Music Producing?

You're gonna fucking blown away how much free time you'll waste while at college. Don't worry This times 1000x. I went to school full time, worked part time, DJ'd 1-3 times a week, had a girlfriend and still spent half my day bored. If you really find you're swamped but making music is important to...

No one ever seems to take this kind of advice to heart when a nobody like myself offers it, so here it is from someone credible.

Re: How do you know when a tune is finished?

When I get so tired of hearing it I no longer want to add any more elements. Although I'm getting better at getting my ideas out quicker, sticking to what's simple, and moving on to the next track before I'm bored of the previous one, which has lead to making better tracks overall.

That's some awesome advice Outbound, I feel like I should put that on a whiteboard next to my desk as I feel like #1 and #2 happen every time I start working on a tune.

I don't think you've heard a thing anyone has said in the last page. You're overcomplicating this so bad it's making my head spin

Re: TMSV production Q&A / AMA

Thanks for doing the Q&A, always nice to talk to the people who's records you rise! I've read a lot about producers (and lately myself) who only really work on tunes when they're feeling inspired, would you consider yourself the same? Or can you sit in the studio and make something happen even w...

Re: Beats by Dre...for A/Bing playback?

I don't think the difference between a pair of Beats and your own headphones used for making music is large enough to warrant getting a pair to A/B my mixes. My car can serve as a great way to hear(or feel, which I find more important) my track on a system that isn't flat and is made to make music s...

Re: Buying a pair of KRK

People talk about KRK low end like it's amazing but I have to constantly reference my tracks on my car sound system because my Rokit 6 get shit for low end unless I'm blasting the volume. My 808's or subs in some tracks are literally inaudible at safe listening levels while mixing down, it's the mos...

Re: Great producers who didn't dj first

Lots of people had no idea how to DJ and were strictly producers first (deadmau5, zomboy, porter, madeon, etc.). I chatted with HUCCI outside a show once and he said he didn't like DJing at all, he was a producer first and DJing was just a necessary evil in today's dance music scene. I'm sure there ...

Re: having a life

I spend less time making music now than when I started and my output/quality of tracks is better than ever before. Don't force yourself to sit in the studio for hours on end, go outside, play some video games, watch a t.v series, get a girlfriend (jk that's the real timesink).

Re: DJing - Club Vs. Bedroom

As AxeD said I'd definitely get your mixing down on your headphones, first few gigs I did didn't have monitors and my mixing was balls. No I just use the monitors for my own pleasure and turn them down a bit when I'm in the mix
