Re: Controlling and working with drums (in Ableton)

normally i use three drum rack tracks
one for kick, one for snares, one for hats.
That way, since i'm normally layering hits anyway, i'll have two kicks maybe 3 snares and i change up my hi hats a lot, so it's nice to have them all separated.
And for cymbals i put them on their own audio track and ...

Reason and Record are two different products. Don't say Reason is not a DAW and then link to an article about Record

Re: Controlling and working with drums (in Ableton)

If I have a drum pattern, and then I want to slightly change up the high hats in another part of the song, should I copy my first clip and then change only the hats in the midi notes of the second clip?

Is that what most people do?

Re: Should I sit down and read my ableton manual?

Well you all thought wrong about me. It's a day later and I've got a new topic specifically about laying out drums in Ableton.

Seen here: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=189368

I used the manual last night as a reference, but just playing with the software as I do all the video ...

Controlling and working with drums (in Ableton)

Hi,

I've been going through the Ableton lessons which are amazing. From watching those + fiddling around, I've been picking up the software really quickly. As far as drums are concerned, I get a few options. Simpler can load up like 8 different drum sounds, and even though I haven't played with ...

While the sound is cool, he's right. Take this knowledge you have now and try to find a way to make it original. Find your own sound

Re: Should I sit down and read my ableton manual?

Yes I run a dual-monitor setup (2x 23").

So you are saying open the pdf version of the manual (I have this already) on the 2nd monitor and in the other, actually DO what the manual says?

I like this approach.

**My problem is that usually manuals are not linear enough to go from Step 1 to Step 2 ...

Should I sit down and read my ableton manual?

Ableton 8 Suite is installed, I run the program, I go "holy shit this is complicated", and then I close it and do something else.

Should I read the manual?
Should I start at the beginning of the in-program video tutorials?
Should I do both?
Which order?

Sincerely,

SeriouslyOverwhelmed

Re: 157 massive presets for free

I realize that, but it would have been just as cool to post a link to the website, as well as a link to the facebook. I of course thank you for the preset package (which I have no use for anyway), but I dont think my comments were out of line.

Thanks though.

Re: I own Reason 5, my brother: Ableton Live

All good dudes.. I'm installing Ableton 8 right now on my new PC. I'll learn it and then when I'm ready, I'll dig up some tutorials for Sytrus which I own from FL Studio 9 and load that into Ableton and get the best of both worlds.

Please get rid of this shit topic. This should be considered spam and locked.

Using samplers to make basslines and melody

Hi, what exactly would you describe the purpose of a sampler? I know you can take a sound and modify it and then probably make a melody out of it. Can you make a bass line with a sampler also, or would you recommend not using a sampler for bass lines and use hard and soft synths instead?

Re: I own Reason 5, my brother: Ableton Live

Operator is amazing.

Big ups, thanks for your feedback.

Question people - since FL Studio runs off of VSTs, and since I own Sytrus (one of the popular FL Studio synths for electro/house), will I be able to use this within Ableton? If I have it, is it still recommended I get Operator?

EDIT: Also ...

Re: I own Reason 5, my brother: Ableton Live

I'm currently making a decision between Ableton and FL Studio, but the option to switch is always there, which is nice. The upgrade from Live to Suite won't be that much, and I'll get Operator, Tension, Electro, etc, but to be honest I dont know what they all do (or how to use Ableton). Currently ...

Re: Production using Operator in Ableton

I'm pretty sure the consensus is that Operator is pretty powerful as a synth, but I'll bump for you anyways out of curiosity.

Don't want to hijack, but how did you learn to use Ableton? Do you feel the manual + videos that come with it are enough, or did you use an outside website or video series?

Re: I own Reason 5, my brother: Ableton Live

Lol yea my brother is a DJ. We've got the Axiom Pro 49, Akai APC40 ableton controller, and we've got a bunch of turntables/mixers laying around.

I'd say I'm set as far as freakin gear goes, I just wanted advice on which DAW to focus on.

I think FL's bad rep comes from older versions, FL Studio 9 ...
