Re: i need a good piano vst

True Pianos and Pianoteq are my go-to for piano sounds. Dimension Pro also has a good set of piano sounds as well.

Re: What did your computer do today?

Got stupid when I loaded up a project with shitloads of orchestral tracks, but did it anyway because it knows better than to piss me off. :)

Re: Production + Narcotics

I take benadryl as a sort of combo for allergies and anxiety, so a lot of times I'm a bit drugged when I'm working on music. I'm never so far gone that I can't write a song worth a damn though...when I'm that out of it I usually just say "fuck it" and go to bed.

Re: Vengeance Samples are Stolen?

Any of the Vengeance samples could easily be found anywhere else on the net. After you download a few decent packs of drum samples you've probably already got copies of at least some of the drum hits you already have. It's easier just to spend time on sound design than to download the latest and gre...

Re: Post an interesting sound you have made thread

An engine sort of sound I made. Sorta has a jackhammer/lawnmower sort of feel to it. http://soundcloud.com/faerychild/enginetest The exact chain I have put together in Ableton is: NI Razor -> Vocoder -> Waves Maxxbass -> IK Ampeg SVX -> IK Classik Studio Plate reverb Near the end of the demo I autom...

Re: Fifty Ninety Challenge

Definitely going to take this on. Probably going to be writing a lot of keyboard-based orchestral sort of things that I'll tweak and implement later and some drumming stuff. If anything I'll get a lot of song ideas that I'll be able to work with at a later point in time in a less time-constrained si...

Re: 3/4 or 6/8

I don't normally use stuff for an entire song (outside of 4/4) other than 3/4 or 6/8 or another variant of those unless I'm writing tribal percussion sort of stuff, and then I'll just fire up my microphone and play the stuff live track by track instead of trying to program the stuff using samples.

Re: 3/4 or 6/8

I've written stuff in the past that's had shit playing in multiple time signatures. Sometimes it's just simple straightforward stuff like a 3/4 playing over 4/4, but I've done stuff where I'm combining things with stuff like 7/8 and other batshit insane sorts of rhythms.

Re: How do you come up with your riffs and Melodies?

Most times I jam around or sit listening to melodic music until something comes to me that I can then play into Live and clean up afterward. I've also taken bits from some of the orchestral stuff I've done in the past and redone it in a more electronic based setting.

Re: what happened to songwritting?

Computers have made musicians really lazy and have made it so your average hack can warez a copy of FL or something and put together a "song" rather quickly. Songwriting hasn't really died, rather the ease with which people can "write" music has raised the noise floor of the indu...

Re: Any Guitarists in here?

Right now I just play acoustic. I've got a Mitchell MD100S, far from top of the line but it's good enough for my level of playing. I think once I move and have more room for things I'll pick up a cheap amp and electric guitar for the hell of it, since I have some symphonic metal tracks that are curr...

Re: How does your girlfriend/wife feel about you producing?

My wife enjoys my music overall, and will readily and usually clearly tell me if she just simply doesn't like something or if it downright sucks...though usually if something I've made sucks bad enough for her to say it sucks I will already have warned her beforehand anyway that it probably does suc...

Re: How do you guys write your drops?

Depends on what I'm doing with the song, laziness, etc...If I'm not feeling the whole writing the drop thing, I'll slap stutter edit or some other glitch plugin on the master track and just play around with that on my midi keyboard. Destroying everything and then coming back and hitting the listener...

Re: Burning in headphones?

There's a similar thing with acoustic guitars. Over time and years of playing, the wood will expand from the sound vibrations and the tone of the guitar will also change slightly (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse). With this same concept, I can see how burn-in would work when dealing with s...

Re: Orchestra Vst's

Miroslav and Edirol are both amazing, I've used both of them in the past and they're pretty solid if you're not going for a full on realistic sound. I use EWQL Gold at the moment, which is probably a bit pricey for what you're wanting, but the Silver edition can be had for less than $200 and the sou...

Re: Gear you wish you owned

In the short term, a bigger apartment so I can start buying gear and setting things up. After that I'm going to work with finding monitors and a larger midi keyboard. I play piano well enough that a 25 key controller is constraining me at the moment. Further along down the line, I want to get a hold...

Re: How many hours of your life have you spent producing?

Been fiddling around with things since high school (music was a big part of why I rarely ever got homework done and was lucky to not get held back). I think I've been doing things since around 2002-ish. I put myself at around 26,280 hours total. The hours I've spent working on anything that I would ...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

Nah, can't argue if I broke a rule, especially when it's in plain view on the first page of a thread. Now, feedback time! @TheBassTest Loving the tribal sort of intro, sets the vibe for the rest of the song. The mixdown is excellent, however the lead could do to be a bit more prominent in the mix. @...
