Re: simple ableton bouncing question
@Rando: You usually don't even have to go to the work of putting warp markers on each transient. Ableton will prompt you with a window after you select "Slice to New MIDI Track" that says, "Slice every ____". You can select transient there and it will do it for you. You may have ...

Re: simple ableton bouncing question
Wait...why not just use the option that says "Slice to New MIDI Track"? That will give you one-shots much more easily...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@mthrfnk: That's going to be a really good intro/outro/interlude. It could be any, really. The lead synth doesn't really sound full enough to me, and maybe make the bass a little less static...and a bit louder. Nice stuff though! @DJ Sampletank: I think the snare at the beginning is sort of jarring ...

Re: Advice on production?
You can always try collaborating or setting a deadline for yourself. That way you FORCE yourself to make something. It may not be great, but after that you can always refine and tweak it to make it sound great.

Re: Musics not great yet, whats the point in a soundcloud?
It's definitely a good idea to have a Soundcloud if you want one. I found, when I was just starting out, that it was a great motivator to get better. I could easily go back through my old tunes and see how much I was improving with each one. Also, it's always nice when you go on to check and see nic...

Re: Finished Tunes For Feedback - Nov/Dec 2011
@Arvis: The drum sounds are weak compared to the bass sounds. At least the snare, not so sure about the kick. In my opinion I would like more of a melody, but again, that's just my preference. @Itsdeadpool: Is that a sample from the rage kid on Youtube? :P That's a pretty darn solid track, super imp...

Re: Music Theory Vs Production Techniques
You need music theory--or at least some basic understanding of what notes sound right in your songs--to make good music. But you also need to have good production techniques so you can get your drum programming to sound right. So it's a balance of both, but I would rely more on the music side. That'...

Yes, I tried them out. There's some pretty cool sounds in there.

Re: Atmosphere + percussion
Hand program them, no quantizing. Reverb on the snare. Not TOO MUCH drums, ever. With an atmospheric tune you want to keep the drums as subtle as possibly, in my opinion.

Re: Finished Tunes For Feedback - Nov/Dec 2011
@Fused: I feel like the kick is far louder than the snare. It could do with being sped up a bit, and it seems like there's a lot of empty space? Maybe add some more midrangey sounds. @Electric Head: Whoa, that's some deep bass. Maybe the kick could be less overpowering, but that's pretty much it. Go...

Re: Youtube Channel For The DSF Production Community (NAMING
We could have:
ONE or TWO videos for the BASICS of each DAW. Where everything is, how to get started, etc. Then have videos from each user on how they work through their songs. Stuff on their own specific workflow, instruments, VSTs, etc.

Try pitching everything down really quickly? I know doing that works in Ableton, dunno about Reason though.

Awesome man!
I'd love to contribute. (Note: I'm not advanced like a lot of the people around here. I do what I can to make my music sound as good as possible.)
I'd be showing people around Ableton; native effects, drum programming, resampling, etc.

Unfortunately Dubsteppers is already taken on Youtube...but I do like something that incorporates "Steppers". BasSteppers?
Also, I'd totally be up for contributing to this channel.

Re: Automating in Abelton
Go to the Envelope menu in clips? That makes it a lot easier to work in smaller areas. Also, I believe holding Ctrl (might have the wrong button, I don't remember) while dragging gives a more controlled value change. And Draw Mode makes it easier as well.

Re: Wow i'm seriously desperate for help.
Dunno if I'm even experienced enough to help with this, seeing as I've only been producing for a year and a half... You just need to practice. I had a little help with that because I've been playing instruments my whole life, but still. When I had been producing for 2 months I was still getting the ...

Re: Rolling Tom Fills
I've always found this easy because I've played drums. I think you should watch some drummers playing songs in context and take note of where and how they make their fills. In my opinion, putting more than 2-3 of a single tom in a quick song is unrealistic. And don't forget you can substitute kicks ...
