Re: Dubstep in the key of?

This idea of a physical or technical limitation shaping a sound both interests and vexes me. Read " How Music Works " by David Byrne. Specifically the chapter on "Creation in reverse". It's about how all throughout history the environment has shaped the limitations, landscape an...

Re: that next level growl

Make a random growl and process it with granulizer This. It really sounds like the kind of thing granular synthesis can do, but I don't know how it's been applied. It really seems like the kind of thing you'd stumble across rather than 'make' in any explicit way. A combination of certain timbres an...

Re: THIS SOUND IS SO DOPE.. how do I get it?

I know this may sound patronizing or even discouraging but you can either get quality VST's with already-amazing presets, learn basic synthesis to do what you want with what you have or just sample tunes you like . you'll get there eventually but it's hard work you know there's much more to this th...

Re: What is your method of producing bass lines?

If it's a Sine Anyway it doesn't need Low pass Not true, only true if the sine used is a pure sine like from a signal generator, the ones I use have added harmonics. Also the lowpas removes any clicks AMD pops from zero crossing fuck ups and any other shit But if you take out Those VA analog harmon...

Re: Cartoons you should watch..?

I second Rick and Morty. It is literally the best cartoon ever made. If you watch them in sequence the way it all ties together is wicked. The plots are epic high concept, the script is genius and the humor is shit your pants good.

Also, Duckman, another brilliantly written cartoon.

Re: Dubstep in the key of?

most of my tunes are in Ab/G# Mixolydian. I love the B major vibe (technically the key is BM) but get the heavy bass hitting from resolving/anchoring around Ab. I'll usually go down to about the E below and the D# above in motives, keeping the main weight/resolve around Gb/G/G# where the bass hits h...

Re: Best low/mid-priced vst bundles

Sounds good. It can be a bit mental. It's best to come at it with some kind of idea about what you want out of it. Getting your head around what kind of source samples are best to use for which thing e.t.c. is very handy to get a grip on too. Edit: also go listen to some Amon Tobin (ISAM). The man i...

Re: Best low/mid-priced vst bundles

If u want a granular synth. Go for Alchemy, or a free thing Called HourGlass. Alchemy is a true beast and really versatile. Absynth is still cool, but it's got a really specific "Absynth" sound that unless you want to go for I'd avoid. If you're looking for a generic Granular thing, hour g...

Re: Creative Sub Bass Processing

Is this a case of sub meaning different things to different people? Technically sub bass is in the sub sonic frequency range, that's why it's called sub bass because it's under the bass frequency range and is also inaudible. But I think lot of people see and term 'sub' as the musical element that ro...

I don't own massive. I made this with all free-ware just yesterday. https://soundcloud.com/tiger_widow/twisty-number I've also just had a release under Route1audio. It might just be one release but it's a big thing for me. I literally produce out my living room using freeware (and a few give aways ...
