Re: Monitors or treatment?
As someone who has had krk 8s, the krk 8s with a sub, then recently sold all of that BS and bought adam a5's and some acoustic treaertment and have never been happier. Extremely happy with this route. Still PLENTY of low end / loudness, and so much mid/high detail to go with it. Do NOT get a sub unl...

Re: headphone vs monitor question prease
Dude just get the a5's and get some bass traps and maybe a few foam panels instead for same money. The a5's are more than enough. THe 7's are too big for alot of rooms amyway. I just downgraded from krk 8's to adam a5's and they are just as loud and sound SO much better. I would def go that route fo...

Re: Downsize monitors from 6/6.5 to 5
I dont think it would really be worth your trouble to buy/sell and potentially spend more money just to lower sub freqs a lil bit. Just put a highpass on your master if you are producing at night. If you are listening to other stuff run it through ableton with an EQ or an actual hardware EQ if you h...

Re: DJing Brostep with Ableton
It really shouldn't take you that long to learn how to use your apc to DJ if you already know how to use ableton in general, and you aren't trying to do anything too complex. Just learn to pre-warp and keep it simple, you really can get by with just an EQ3 on each deck and the crossfader as a minimu...

Re: APC40 DJing
How do you guys deal w/ tempo when mixing a set w/ live? Do you stay at one tempo the entire time? One set tempo for a range/genre of tunes; adjusting between different genres? Fine-Adjust with the tempo knob over a period of time? Or beatmatching a 40 bpm difference from dubstep to triphop seamless...

I too have recently been searching for quality bongo loops / hits. I can't seem to get that super groovy house feel in my drums. This is a great thread keep the info coming!

Re: Anyone use Pro Tools to make dub step?
What are some reasons that people nowadays are moving over to ableton / logic / reason for producing / songwriting over protools? I'm curious because a bunch of my buddies run a studio geared toward hip hop production and they insist on spending all the extra money to have a whole pro tools console ...

Re: Are Studio monitor speakers completely necessary?
I would def get other more important things first like your computer / software as that will make a way bigger difference. Buy monitors when you have the extra $ and you KNOW that owning them will improve your mixing on your low end ( Keep in mind if your room isn't treated that your low end monitor...

Re: APC40 DJing
I've never dj'ed before or really had any desire to DJ but I have an apc40 that I use for producing, and a potential gig opening for one of my buddies local shows. I was thinking about learning how to set everything up so I can do a simple set to help him out, and was wondering if its really worth i...

Re: layering basslines question
Yeah you def have to eq to layer if you want it to be purposeful lol. Do you guys prefer to have your sub / mid layer with the exact same filter automation duplicated using their internal synth filters? Or do you layer your basses w/o the internal synth filters and then bus them together, automating...

Not bad for your first song. Nice beat / idea. Your mix could use a little work but that will come with time and experience. Great first start keep producing. I too started not too long ago check out some of my stuff www.soundcloud/com/nehlz

Re: Synth Filters or External Filters
Also, another thing related to this discussion: If using the built in filters when layering sub-bass /mid-bass/ high-end on your wobbles you will have to duplicate filter mod envelopes for each layer so that everything syncs up. If using an external filter you can just bus all of the layers together...

Re: Synth Filters or External Filters
automate automate automate. sometimes LFO for a very basic background sound. hint: i automate volume WAY more often than filter frequency. well maybe not THAT much more, but more motox, it seems like you know what to do and what you're options are to some extent. so just use whatever method seems m...

Synth Filters or External Filters
When you guys are synthesizing your wobbles, what workflow method do you use? Do you use the built-in filters in your synth modulated by the built-in LFO? Or do you generate your waveforms etc only in your synth and use an external filter to wob after your synth in the chain? You obviously gain some...

Re: New 49 key keyboard... any suggestions?
recently got an akai mpk49. upgraded from an m-audio oxygen 49. The akai is amazing night and day difference over my oxygen. The keys feel very solid as they are semi-weighted and just have an overall better feel than the m-audio. It has the exact same knobs etc as my apc 40. As said before though t...

Re: Monitor Stand Fill >:(
That stuff is just rebranded marked up shot. The stuff they sell in guitar center isnt any more "musical" than any other cheap spherical metal balls used for mass lol. Look up a materials distributor like mcmaster-carr and i guarantee you can find something a lot cheaper and will get to yo...

Re: Synth suggestions
Well, it crashes FL quite frequently and also, when I am playing 2 or 3 synths over the top of one another it crackles like crazy. Cheers for the suggestions aswell. That's probably not the fault of the synth but of your interface processor (if you have one) or your cpu processing power. I have a c...

Re: Adding a sub to my pair of RP6's
you're going to either want to spend the 399 and get the KRK sub or the yamaha sub as if you get anything cheaper you are probably hurting your monitoring more than helping it (unless you build your own sub). There aren't really any cheaper home-studio-quality monitoring subs around, and your only o...
