The first dubstep tracks I heard were the Starry Eyed Jakwob remix, Where's My Money Caspa Remix and Woo Boost.

Since then I've been getting into 'purer' dubstep like Roll with the Punches, Dutch Flowers, Adachigahara's Theme etc.

But it all started with those three tracks

Probably my all time favourite dubstep tune

Gonna put on some Peverelist (Roll with the Punches) then follow it up with Adachigahara's Theme

I start of with a chord progression then fiddle with the pattern of notes till I find something that sounds good

Bumped because this song is awesome

Just making whatever came to mind without thinking about it too much helped me.

IIRC I:

1) Came up with a random chord progression
2) Then a drum beat
3) Then a melody

and went from there. Keep it simple.

I've tried upping the tempo slightly, changing drum patterns and varying the oscillator speed on the bass. All my songs sound like depressing 'sit in a corner and meditate while headbanging' type music.

I use side chaining to allow the kick to push through the pad for a thumping effect
