Re: Fuckin Kicks...
I have, but good call. Parallel trickery always aids the situation, but the problem still seems to lie in the organic tone... Which bring us back to "sample selection". But it seems that there's a consistency to the type of kick I'm looking for, so there must be some aspect of the equation that lies ...

Fuckin Kicks...
Hey all,
So I have a visceral hatred for making kicks, and I really want/need to make just one I can live with, so I can move on with life and other production aspects. Below are two examples of the style I'm shooting for. I've no shortage of quality samples, so that's covered. I'm typically either ...

Re: "Panning" Drums (Emphasis on "")
This may qualify as unrelated, but know what I've been doing lately? Creating a return track, throwing on/adjusting Live's filter delay to make a big stereo spread, and then sending juuuust a bit to the snare. Adjust to taste, and it can be pretty righteous.

Re: Deeper Kicks
Yeah, I tried just rolling off the highs on a handful of my go-to kicks, but it was always just... weird haha. Anyway, I got a pretty satisfying result with Genevieve's method.

Deeper Kicks
Hey guys,
Been digging a lot of the older, deeper stuff lately and enjoying trying out some new songs in that vein. I'm used to producing the more modern, aggressive stuff, and my main trouble spot so far has been the kick. Naturally, I'm trying to start with good samples, and I've got no shortage ...

Re: Stereo Spread?
Depending on what exactly you're applying the stereo spread to ( with any of the above methods), you may want to keep in mind this sort of "inverted pyramid" model of stereo width and frequency range. Meaning, low-end stuff tends to translate better as a mono signal, whereas the higher frequencies ...

Ableton Audio Clips - Volume "Skipping"
Hey all,
Been having a weird problem lately. Here's what happens... I'll preview a sample (in this case some typical Vengeance up sweep [actually this problem is almost exclusive to riser clips]) by clicking it in the browser. The preview sounds just dandy. I'll drop the sample into its rightful ...

Re: FL Studio 10 and DBlue Glitch
Experienced this in Ableton too, annoying as shit. Honestly though I've come to find that most of the glitch plugins' (dBlue, Effectrix...) features can be done manually without too much extra effort. This also allows for more picky tweaking. However, those plugins can be handy to just get some ...

Re: Music Theory
Eventually someone was going to say this like an asshole, so here it is constructively - Sounds like you're looking for the basics of the all around craft of production, but regarding, say, making basslines... Read the manual of whatever your go-to synth might be (Massive?). It's tedious, yes, but ...

Vintage-sounding vibrato synth question
Hey all,
I've always love this kind of sound; reminds me of old Sonic games on sega genesis... anyway, it's the sound right around 0:20. Seems dead simple; saw wave and some vibrato, but i can never get it just right. I'm thinking it's just the really tasteful application of the vibrato on longer ...

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Hey all, this is my first go at heavy use of reese stuff in a tune (it's just a snippet of the full thing), looking for any feedback. There's bits in the verse section as well as the drop; the verse I tried to emulate that koan usage.

ookay cool. had a suspision that might be the case; that one would actually pan the signals. I look forward to trying that out
