Re: Maschine...useless?

I am confused as to why you bought maschine without having a need or even really knowing what you would do with it. If your idea of it is useless why did you even get it in the first place. You definitely don't need a lot of $$$ or gear to make good music. Typically you don't spend your money until...

Re: Black metal

Most of the old black metal stuff (Emperor, old Dimmu) used older Korg keyboard presets. They aren't doing anything fancy. You might look through some Korg Wavestation vst stuff. Although you should be able to create something very similar in any synth. The Korg X5D has been spotted on stage at old ...

Re: Velocity based reverb decay

Thanks man.

Yeah, I thought I could do that, but just figured it might be possible. I think it is with Max4Live, but I don't have that, so Que Sera.

Velocity based reverb decay

Hey there, Anyone know of a way to set a send reverb's decay to automate based on a drum hit's velocity? For instance, the harder the strike of a tom the longer the reverb holds. I know I could manually set this up with different sends, but I thought there might be an easier way. I'm using Ableton L...

Re: Assigning decay to hit velocity in Ableton Drum racks?

Ah yeah, I've run across that drumpulse thing before. I forgot about it. The chain selector is a good idea too. I was doing that with different filter types trying to get a z-planish morphing thing at one point. Thanks guys.

Assigning decay to hit velocity in Ableton Drum racks?

Hey,

Just wondering if its possible to assign the decay with a drum rack to the velocity of the midi note on Ableton 8? Can't seem to find anything on it via google or here. I'm wanting the sound of a hi-hat sample to decay faster the shorter the velocity of the sample.

I hate the commercial, I hate that dancing robot, I look forward to trying it out though for better or worse.

Re: Individual Struggles

Definitely getting groove into my drums has been the hardest part. I come from a 4 x 4 rock background as well and it has been tough getting that shuffle in there. Secondly, learning to choose samples (especially with drums) that compliment each other in a cohesive kit is something I struggle with. ...

Nothing wrong with clipping massive or any plug as long as the channel isn't clipping

Re: When layering kicks...

I slapped a couple together today and it sounded great. Minimal eqing was necessary. I think its all about using your ears and A/Bing. EQing is definitely import, but its not always necessary to be surgical with it.

Re: What new thing have you learned this week?

Hey good thread. I really like the TAL-Reverb for something free. It's a really nice plate reverb, very clean sounding. Everything TAL makes is sick to be honest. I haven't had as much time as I would like this week to learn something new, but as far as plugin chains go there is no set way of doing ...

Re: More I learn about production... less inspired I am?

I think by nature of just being at a computer making music it takes away from just being able to improvise which is 90% of what makes most music have some sort of feeling. It's amazing how the way I make music has changed over the past year since I began producing. Prior to dubstep and production I ...

Re: Feed Me/Spor Facebook Post

A well known electronic music magazine recently wanted to do a few page spread about my production techniques. They sent me a list of preliminary questions; what plugins do I use for 'dirty' sounds, what makes a good 'drop', how much 'filth is too much filth'? I fucking love Computer Music sometime...

Feed Me/Spor Facebook Post

I thought this was a great post from Feed Me/Spor that is worth reposting here. There isn't a whole lot of info about Jon's production techniques and he goes into a bit of detail here as to why. "This is the greatest game in the world.' I've almost stopped doing interviews because I'm achieving...

Re: The 'help me make that dungeon sound' thread

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74-UEUXQBbw&feature=related Hey guys, I'm trying to make a kick drum that is suitable to this kind of music similar to the one used in this song. A lot of deeper dubstep has a hard hitting kick drum with an understated transient. I can't get this right. I have no ...

Re: Drum Bus Reverb

Those particular reverb settings assuming you are using it as a send and not an insert look ok. I would turn off Chorus. Turn on Input processing and use the Lo Cut button, turn up the stereo knob to 100, and turn up pre delay slightly, and diffusion slightly. I actually prefer the sound of economy ...

Re: plugins to get the dungeon sound bass?

I could care less if Biome uses the odd bass sample here and there. Hell, he could use all samples and no nothing about synthesis and he would have my respect for days. The guy has the sharpest mixes and nicest vibes around for my money. He's a serious talent. No huge let downs here. I think it was ...
