Adding movement to your sounds?

Hey Guys, I have no issues creating original melodies/rhythm as well as replicating some of my favorite tracks. However I have been having trouble when it comes to creating movement in my sound. My melodies sound so "bland" and "boring" if you will. I know alot of it comes down t...

Monitor Connection Question (soundcard vs headphone jack)

Hey everyone, I plan on soon purchasing a soundcard/audio interface when my financial situation allows, however for the time being my KRK 5's are currently hooked up using a split TRS to headphone jack cord. My question is, is the sound quality significantly different when running through a soundcar...

make up gain on transient shapers?

hey everyone, I have been resorting to transient shapers lately to get a clicky top attack to layer for my kicks. Just wondering should I be concerned with adjusting the make up gain to match the levels before and after to effectively compare the result, just as I would with compression? Apologize f...

Re: Tuning percussion + other track elements.

Interesting, thanks for the replies so far. Never really though of tuning my percussion at all, until now. I have just been going by ear when tuning my kicks, adjusting them a few semitones up or down until it "fits" sometimes its the root note of the bass, other times its a 5th up etc... ...

Re: Phantom sub bass and fitting together the low end parts

The thing that always baffled me about a sub, is what notes to play. Quite often a melody will go up or down a few octaves, whereas you only have a limited range you can play the sub in. Too high and its not sub anymore, too low and it won't be heard on most systems. I've run a few tracks through a...

Sidechain and make up gain n00b question

Hey guys,

I was under the impression to leave the make up gain alone when using sidechain compression (ie set it at 0). However in a recent tutorial the producer was adjusting the make up gain. If someone could shed some light on this basic question that would be great!

Thank you!

In which ways do you prefer to widen your sounds and why?

Hey Guys, Been learning all about stereo/mono lately and how to widen sounds (specifically mids/highs and leaving my bass mono). Anyway... I was wondering when you widen a sound do you just pick one certain technique (duplicating tracks/detuning, using the pan knob, chorus, delay, reverb, dedicated ...
