Re: How to make a Kahn new grime sounding 808 style bass?

Basically what these guys said.

In ableton use the saturator, stick it on waveshapper and go nuts. Resample and bingo.

He uses massives performer for his basses. He creates his bass, then randomises a bunch of different performer settings on lfos / amps etc... bounces each part to audio and chops it up.

Re: Do you think that using loops/presets/sample packs is 'l

IMO Using them is less rewarding and won't really help you define your own sound, which is pretty important if you ask me. But they can be useful if you're trying to do things ina timely manner and don't want to be bothered with creating your own risers/noise/percussion, which once again will sligh...

Re: Using 808 style kicks with other bass sounds.

Tune the 808 and some EQing can sort this easily. Just think of it as a standard sub bass and how you'd layed a bass on top of it.

Also some creative use of sidechaining can do some nice things.

Re: Need a bit of help on my sub basses

It also has a lot to do with the notes used as some notes will either be too high to not interfere with your kick / main bass and some notes will lose all their power when they go too low.

He does use massive. In that mau5hax thing he was saying he doesn't really split frequencies and hadn't played with that much.

Re: Dubstep Events in Bristol

I'm a Resident for YOLO, it's looking serious this term with a wide range of guests. The N-Type show next week is looking to be huge, its pretty cheap as well. Get down there (its def way more bass orientated and has moved way passed brostep).

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

dotcurrency Def feeling this one so don't bin it. Has some coki / zomby-kinda vibes. The build up was good but I'd maybe chop the first few bars off or do something else with them, the bare kick and snare wasn't the best start but as soon as the shuffles and percs start all is gravy. At 0.48 the cra...

Promo Companies

I've been with Renegade for a while but tbh, a lot of their releases are no good to me. Was just wondering what promo companies everyone else is a member of so I can get more up to date and relevant music for the kind of nights I play regularly. If enough people contribute I'll keep updating this to...

Re: Trap Music. Thoughts?

prerecorded set... Nah, its just in ableton. Their setup is a mac with a soundcard running 3 outputs into a mixer (which they EQ). They have 2 controllers, an APC20 and a novation launch pad. Whilst ableton obviously keeps everything in time they launch all the tunes / clips themselves. I was with ...

Re: How to keep basses fat when cutting/highpassing for sub?

Maybe try being a little more clinical with where you high pass your bass and low pass your sub. http://www.phy.mtu.edu/~suits/notefreqs.html You could even try low passing / high passing at a frequency in the middle of your two notes, then duck out some space for your kick and in theory, everything...

Less

- EDM

More

- Soul. I don't care what genre, I just want some tunes to have some life to them.

Re: Quick Complextro/dubstep question

I always find it easier to just work with audio, even if it means bouncing down layers etc. I think its a subconscious thing where by making it all audio I separate the sound design and arrangement process so it shifts my mindset.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

houston Weather I think the lead needs work, not the sound but the notes, gets a little discordant at times. The second lead / bell that comes in is a bit overpowering. Beefier kick and maybe step back on the percussion a touch. It gets a little messy. Is a solid idea but needs more structure over a...
