Jupiter 8 :U: :U: :U:
Yes! I interned at a 2" studio in '97 and there was a Jupiter 8 and an 808. That's where the bug really bit. Studio is long gone, but I know the owner on facebook, I should hassle him to dig out the DATs, see if theres anything left.
**edit if I had to choose one piece ...

Re: Sample CD Haters
Using bass, synth samples from sample cds is also stupid.
even though it's something i don't really do i wouldn't call it stupid if it works for the track. listen to dj shadow entroducing and then listen to some david axelrod and see how he's lifted near enough the whole tune and stuck drums on ...

Re: Sample CD Haters
Personally anything musical I sample comes off a record, one shots I couldn't care less. It's not even a question of 'sampling ethics' but just the fact that on my days off I like hitting up the record spot and digging for a couple of hours and taking some interesting music home that I'd never hear ...

Re: Who REALLY cares about the loudness war?
Cheers for clarifying mate. I'm not a dubstep producer, but been producing hip hop for a looooong time. I joined this forum to a) learn about synths, and b)escape the thousands of 12 year olds trying to sell their 'hot beatz' they made with their 'cracked fruity loopz' that populate pretty much ...

Re: Who REALLY cares about the loudness war?
Every time I read the word 'limiter' on here, I'm reminded of this comment from last week;
yep, you can put multiple limiters on the master to get it to a level close to a commercial track.
Still makes me chuckle

Re: Who REALLY cares about the loudness war?
I'm definitely anti-loudness wars, but these days you have to find a middle ground I think. You don't want people reaching for the volume when your song comes on, but you don't want it smashed so hard that the dynamics are lost.

Re: Eqing/mixing samples from breaks
Yes it will allow him to burn a cd with his track to bang in his car and not have to frantically reach for the volume control when Skrillex or somesuch comes on afterwards and blows his head off.
I'm not saying it's correct, but it is a simple solution in that scenario. I personally would not play ...

Re: Eqing/mixing samples from breaks
yep, you can put multiple limiters on the master to get it to a level close to a commercial track. Obviously I'd recommend getting it mastered professionally if you plan on doing anything with it, but a chain of L2s on the mix buss will get you the level you need. The gain knob on the mixer probably ...

Re: Eqing/mixing samples from breaks
If you ripped them from an mp3 directly then they are most likely peaking at close to 0db. You have to turn them down or your master channel will clip. The level makes no difference to the sound. If you turn it down, crank your monitors to compensate and mix the other instruments around it. the last ...

Re: Finding it near impossible to release a track
I'd do as the others have suggested, put together a five track EP, up it to Bandcamp or something and promote the hell out of it online. Hit up the blogs, forums, anywhere you can to get exposure, get some hardcopies pressed (50 C-DRs is cheap as chips, a handful of dubplates is also a viable option ...
