Re: Disco-Nekt - Dreams

Nice! But I personally like heavy, filthy bass drops along with a lot of dubstep lovers. I feel you lack that in this. Just my opinion. Lemme show you my drop for one of my songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoRmIkl4XxQ&context=C3c7c61eADOEgsToPDskL50G6pOj41PMtg8_Fkg6vx

Re: torn between choices(Sub)

Another technique to try, especially if a full on lfo on the volume is too drastic for your liking, is to lfo the pitch of your sub at the same rate as your mids. After experimenting with it myself, I'm convinced that a lot of top guys use this method and it usually works best at very subtle ...

Re: Cheap/quality speakers(maybe monitors) for producing

Above poster gave a pretty spot on rule of thumb, especially in terms of gear. However I've had a pair of Behrenger Truth monitors that were given to me for Christmas 6 years ago and they still sound as good as when I got them. I haven't tried any of their other gear, but the word around is to stay ...

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?

A couple years ago, before I had a good job and some disposable income mind you, I started producing again after 8 years hiatus, working on a few tracks with an old friend who was using a cracked version of Live. Since then I've bought Suite 8 and also never have had close to the amount of lag or ...

YES^10000000000. If I could only have one instrument, it would be Alchemy, and I've tried almost all the top vst's. It's the sickness, it's the sex.

Re: Basslines these days! re-sampling?

Okay so we've created a patch with potential then then we resample / split / effect / resample

Once you've got a great sounding sample, how would you load it into a sampler (say the one in ableton) to use as a new instrument without stretching it all out of wack when we move 3-4 keys up from the ...

Re: How to tell what note your kick is hitting?

You don't technically tune your drums to match the key of the track. Drums don't have harmonics in a regular pattern like other instruments, the harmonics of drums are scattered around the spectrum irregularly so they don't land on any particular note. You can pitch it so it doesn't interfere with ...

Re: Automating in Abelton

^this. Think of it like Windows Paint. Zoomed out it may look like youve drawn a circle but once you zoom in you can see its just a crude approximation using small "staircasing" pixels. The clip crossfades are genuine curves though so I have trouble understanding why they haven't implemented them in ...

Re: Automating in Abelton

Hey guys, I've been trying to check back often with Ableton about an update, but does anyone have any news about them implementing "true" curves in their automation in a future update? I absolutely love Ableton, but this particular oversight by them is unfortunate and most other DAW's have had this ...

Re: Moving on from Reason

P.S. Forgot to mention that at first, if you're not accustomed to it, the 2 modes in Ableton can be a tad confusing and seem redundant. But I really only use the arrangement screen except for when I'm mixing down, resampling or recording a bunch of clips. So don't worry if that throws ya for a loop ...

Re: Moving on from Reason

Hey man, I can relate, as I did this as well. I've tried almost all of the popular daw's out there (Acid, FL, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, Logic) one way or another (friends studios, demos, etc..) and at last, Ableton. I also struggled with the change because of ingrained Reason workflow ...

Re: Organising sounds in a bass drop?

Coming from a relatively straight forward trance and breakbeats background (in terms of song structure) and into the more "chaotic" dubstep style, I can relate with this issue, as it was the hardest part for me to get my head around since I had to unlearn my established structures and even workflow ...

Re: Whats better Zebra or Albino

Zebra 2 sounds better to my ears as well. Don't really know how to quantify it, just seems to have a bit more punch and all the waveshaping tools are great. Also check out Camel Audio's Alchemy, absolutely GREAT for dubstep, and the grain synthesis and filters are nasty!

Edit: my friend just got ...

Re: What synths do you use for pads?

Omnisphere and Nexus have great stuff out of the box, but I've been using Alchemy and Gladiator lately to horrifically beautiful affect. Alchemy is just dope for ANY and EVERY sound. If I could only have 1 "synth", she would be it. But the big tip here with pads is layering! Layer!!

Re: Samplers?

A bit misguided. Samplers like that akai were used to not only record external sounds from records, mics etc, but also the play-back of instantaneous audio, and manipulate its pitch etc. Every sampler has a synthesizer section ware you can control envelopes etc... Now you cant record whole songs on ...

Re: Samplers?

I havent found the term to be used generically. Originally hw samplers were very useful to both record "samples" of audio and then further chop, edit, shrink, stretch,.. basically twist and effect the sampled audio into something "new". But now a days it's very simple to capture audio digitally ...
