On the right side of either the Arrangement or Session View's there is a I-O button somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the way down the screen. I think thats what you're talking about. It enables the in and out section of the track's that let you route one audio track into another.

Definitely ableton. My school has PS S1 because we have a Studio Live 16.4.2 that we use for our live pa front of house setup, I don't think I've ever heard of a single person using it though...
