What is having relative pitch really like?

There are so many people out there with a billion different levels of relative pitch, some are supposedly masters, some can only recognize some intervals and arpeggios, and some struggle with the difference between major thirds and minor thirds. Do people ever finish ear training? as students we get...

Re: 'Throaty' Type Lead

Thats defiantly a vocal chop of some kind layered with a staccato saw type pluck. Those kinds of sounds you can't really recreate, but it shows how important sampling and layering is.
Like try putting random vocals in a sampler and playing them like an instrument

Re: Horn Type Lead

Damn that song is sick,
I'm guessing its a horn sample with obvious stuff like reverb and compression. You could probably get close with a synth just by using a saw plus a slower attack then having a bandpass filter+ frequency shifter and saturation

Re: In Which I Rant About Sound Design

This is what antiserum said to me about his tune bass salt, which has a really sick monster bass. Same kind of stuff applies to wolfgang/feed me glitch edits stuff too. "thanks bruh.. i spent quite a bit of time on the sound design of the basses to be honest. its a combo of VIRUS TI patches tha...

Why does the Frequency shifter sound so good?

I never used the frequency shifter in massive, but now i put it on almost every sound. It adds life to anything when its dialed in right (dry/wet about 50% with pitch tuned right). Especially with making monster basses, you barely have to try and you already got a crazy unique wild one on your hands...

Did you try using the frequency shifter in addition to the comb filter? with a 40-60% wet

Learning to mix/sound design with no Sub-woofer?

I have two yamaha HS 50M monitor speakers, however due to my living situation and income i cant get a sub. How important is it to be able to hear sub when you are mixing dance music? If i learn to mix well with the HS 50M speakers will my skills be f'd up when i finally get to own a sub-woofer? I im...

Re: Artists similar to Rusko

I really like Rusko's music because you can actually groove to it, where as alot of the current dubstep seems to be more about raging and headbanging. What artists have ruskos triplet style and keep the number of bass sounds to a minimum ? thanks are you sure you actually mean 'bass' and not 'noise...

Can you make a dubstep forum chat room!?

Whenever i am at my computer doing music/experimenting I like to have a chat room open for talking and observing conversations. It lets me be "social" while Im hanging out with my computer all day. Anyways a dubstepforum chat room would be sweet, and populated Plus I'm sick of gearslutz ch...

Do pros conciously do stuff like call & response

Does anyone know if the top producers will consciously try to create call and response? Alot of the time i feel like call and response creates itself on accident. Are most tunes premeditated or just created blow by blow? I heard a good quote from a producer named hedflux about how "every solo p...

The "bass salt" bass

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qNQHv6jdyY Trying to make this iconic sound. The first sound of the drop at 00:54. Love this one because it sounds soo organic and innovative. The sound seems like its made up of either two different FM8 patches or one really detailed FM8 patch. Either way theres li...

Bun Dem drop sound, type of distortion?

I've been trying to make this sound (the main drop sound) for about 10-11 hours, the closest ive gotten is Sampling a modulated scream filter with some massive bitcrushing, then some whoopy pitchbend and lots of FX, but it lacks the clarity that this has, the piercing distortion or something.... doe...

Screaming with other synths besides massive?

Alot of great scream sounds come from using the scream filter in massive, this is basically a feedback with resonance if im not mistake? How can you get an audio clip or another synth like sylenth to have feedback to make it scream like this? Massives great and all but I feel like i rely on it too m...

Re: Shambala excision mix type songs, 2008-2011 evolution?

Do you think just practicing with ZETA, albino, sylenth, and processing is enough to get to the kind of level the 2011 shambala has? Yes - thats all it really is anyways. If you follow these guys on twitter you'll occasionally see tweets about 14 hour producing sessions and stuff, thats how they're...

Shambala excision mix type songs, 2008-2011 evolution?

I listened to all the exicision shambala mixs, starting in 2008 to 2011, It changed so dramaticlly, The 2008 and 2009 versions sound much more simple and minimal compared to 2010 and 2011. Is the new stuff still using resampling, or is it more field recording and stuff, or maybe theyre using those n...
