Re: Strange type of writer's block
Try using a different VST or a different program completely just till you get over the block, then if you make anything you like you can use it or rewire/sample it back into whatever DAW you're using. Or if you haven't then try re-sampling your sounds like in completely different ways till you get a...

Re: How loud is your volume while producing?
I usually listen really loud but I found this on the Propellerhead reason website recently - We love it loud, don't we? During the long hours of a studio session you turn it up a notch every time the ears have gone numb. It makes the music sound better, more powerful, and brings subtle details out ...

Re: Frustrated with producing
Wouldn't get down because you haven't been signed its not all it seems (unless its a huge label). You've got to put the effort in outside of the DAW to get noticed, just uploading a track wont get you known most of the time, there's loads of youtube channels that upload music maybe do a 'like my pag...

Re: Processing Vocals
probably worth recording them at a local studio or something, prices won't be much and results will be much better - but if you can't just try record a few takes of the vocal and layer them up maybe pan some left/right and compress them differently makes them sound lots thicker and wont be able to t...

lifes short man if you're not getting anything properly out of something is it really worth it?Majin wrote:I'm not signed or anything but I know that if all I focused on was getting released, I'd have no fun making this stuff. The act of creating it, in itself, is the real reward for me.

Re: Chasing Shadows is dead :'(
APPARENTLY they were signed under an exclusive deal under the Chasing Shadows alias to Hench and therefore had to change names to release on MTA Records
either way the new tunes are pretty sick but Amirah, ILL and Red remix will be my faves

Re: Label or Independent?
Label. Always. A group of people will have more acquaintances as a whole then an individual will, and therefore youll be better promoted, and therefore, more successful. 18 heads in a fam like unit are better then 1 head alone in his bedroom. ALso, labesl will exercise quality control, and give you...

Re: Label or Independent?
Well, the label gets what? 50% of total? Plus what the remixers get. You have 13k likes (hory shet) on facebook and as you so well said yourself, you'll get it promoted on Youtube channels with +70k subs. If it was me, I'd (probably) go about and release it myself. But hey, the fuck do I know, righ...

Re: Label or Independent?
easy. Indie > who's gonna promote it and how much will that cost you? label > is there a deal on the table and what's it look like? I could probably get it up on a few youtube channels some have like 70k subscribers-ish and also I have a fairly nice fanbase on facebook & youtube. Also I could c...

Label or Independent?
Was just thinking in terms of money (as I really need some haha) would it be better to release an EP on a label or independently? Basically its a 4 track EP with an original and 3 remixes and I'd have to cut profits between myself and remixers obviously but would this including distribution costs be...

Re: Contacting Labels for releases?
Send the mixdown and if you want your own master of the track that way the label can get an idea of what it will sound like properly mastered, another way is to just send the track to producers to play out and stuff then labels will contact you instead as there always on the lookout for new tracks! ...

Re: Mastering Loudness Trouble
Work on the mixdown before anything - sidechaining will help drums stand out but don't overdo it. Then if you're mastering yourself just work with compression and eq they are the only things that can make it substantially 'louder' and sound better - a brickwall limiter wont do this its just to stop ...

Re: DJs mixing in key?
I'm not sure if its a good or bad idea because it does restrict you from playing some tracks you might want to play and also means your set all has the same kind of vibe to it and is predictable (in some cases) but you can easily mix two songs of a different key without anyone noticing and it actual...
