Re: Help in getting creativity back into my composition
Don't use more than one MIDI pattern per instrument or sample--get out of loop mode. Dont worry about writing instrument parts so that everything fits neatly into 4, 8, or 6 bars. Let things overlap. You dont need to do this all the time for club music. But I think one bad limiation dance producers...

Re: Spectrograph plugins
No they're not - learn what you got, seriously. All DAWs have some cracking stock plugins, learn the shit out of them. You're new to this, so use your DAW for 12 months or more, don't use anything else. Lock yourself in an FL-only box, and those points where you get frustrated cos you can't create ...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@F8fabe - yeah I agree, too many nintendo sounds. I'd be using them as incidentals rather than regular stabs. I also think your sub needs a bit more volume. I'd also lower the volume of those mids, they're a bit too loud. Eq in general though sounds pretty good.

Re: Help in getting creativity back into my composition
In all seriousness, stop trying to be like them. It's impossible to be like your favourite artists, so don't make sounds and try to align it with what you hear - it's a short trip to a frustrated outcome and anger tantrums (believe me, until I got past this point I nearly gave up on music about 10 t...

Re: Help in getting creativity back into my composition
I usually leave it and start over. Quite often I'll come back to it in a few weeks time and turn it into what it was meant to be. I also tend to get the sounds and general layout done first, before focusing on individual sounds and polishing them up. That way I get the idea down, then focus on the d...

Re: Where do YOU (personally) put your frequencies?
Yes, if it's done in a certain way, for example you wanna layer a few different bass sounds. Usually when you do that you also have to drop the volume on both, as they double up on each other - and that's the issue with multiple elements. When they double up, they add on in amplitude even though it ...

Re: Getting Started into a Career of Dubstep
You've got at least 3-4 years ahead of you in learning the tools and how to create sounds, then probably another 3 or 4 after that before you're taken seriously. Welcome aboard

Re: Help in getting creativity back into my composition
I find that if I go with Method #1, very rarely there will be something that just clicks and I know what to do to make me like the track but more often than not, I will just gradually hate the tune more and more as I go and so I'll be less inclined to put proper effort in; I'm kinda OCD with how th...

@f8fabe - thanks for that mate
Got an update there now, more atmospherics in the intro, a better drum arrangement there, and introduced a nice dark melodic hook

Re: £500 AND I'M REALLY CONFUSED
PS - the pads on the MPK25 (I have one) - are absolutely shite. You gotta bash the damn things to get input on them, so velocity is really hard to play with properly.

Re: £500 AND I'M REALLY CONFUSED
imho identify where your weak points are in your studio, or where you feel you'd like to grow next. If you're ready for monitors (aka your ears can actually tell the difference between frequencies, even on shitty speakers), then that should probably be a starting point

Re: Help in getting creativity back into my composition
I tend to find that it takes me 4 or 5 track attempts before I hit something that really resonates with me. There's two takes I have on this: 1) Complete the track anyway, even if you don't like it (you never know what happens as you play around). Just don't get caught up on one element. 2) Experime...

Re: Where do YOU (personally) put your frequencies?
There are no hard and fast rules tbh, but there's a good image around somewhere that shows you where certain instruments and sounds tend to sit. They're a guide, but they're by no means a rule you need to live by. Sometimes elements simply don't work at those frequencies due to the colour of their l...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Greetings, all! Long time, no see! :) @chaddub - mate you've gotten a lot better since I used to post here regular. Not a trap fan, but it's made very well. I think the sub is just a tad too loud. Also love the irregular beat breaks that sound like a vinyl skipping. Good stuff. @dotcurrency - those ...

Subfect - Slam (Deep but aggressive dubstep)
This is an unusual number for me. It's very gritty, quite aggressive, but still (I would say) sits on the deep dubstep scale. Let me know what you think. Will happily provide copies to those that are keen to have it in their mixes!

Re: Subfect - Pulse (Deep and tribal)
Hey there Subfekt, nice job. I think you can benefit a lot from shaving some freq's off your synth to carve around the snare and other elements. Also I'd throw a filter on the kick and adjust to taste. Are you using Vengeance packs? I think one of the kicks is from vengeance, yeah. Which synth are ...
