Re: Fab Filter Mastering Bundle... and other bundles...Worth

Im excited, I just started the trial the other day. Im going to try and purchase as much of these plugins as possible after the trial is up. Do you guys have any advice on good ways to implement saturn? I have almost no experience with it, or muliband distortion units now that I think of it. I've n...

Re: How do you categorize your distortion plugins?

By only using the one provided by Reason :D Make a combi that makes use of Malstroms shaper. 1. load up a new combinator 2. make 2 line mixers and two malstroms. 3. Label mixer one as 'INPUT' mixer two as 'OUTPUT' and the malstroms 'LEFT' & 'RIGHT' respcetfully (thats what i'll call each from h...

That sounds like it is compressing the sound strangely enough

distorting a sub makes it..... not a sub
Yes but want i think he actually wanted to say was saturation, not distortion.

Re: Effects: sends/returns Vs direct

Using effects as sends can help give a mix depth and cohesion. eg. having a couple of delays and reverb which several things are can be sent to (at varying degress) at once can give a nice ambience and sense of space. and using a distortion on a send which all basses can be sent to can give them all...

Re: BassLine Compression Settings (HipHop)

Wouldn't a limiter be more than enough to help level off the higher frequency notes to keep the volume consistent? Assuming of course that the difference you are trying achieve isn't so great that the signal distorts when hitting the limiter. Then again I'm not all that technical and limiters make ...

Re: BassLine Compression Settings (HipHop)

well compression is an obvious choice here but you could go with volume automation. Would get a more natural sound. How is the bass being played, is it in audio or midi? cuz you could just change the velocity of the midi notes so they are more levelled. Then if you need a bit of compression it wont ...

Re: How does compression help "glue" sounds together?

another reason that it can add the glue to sounds is because the quieter sounds are effected by the compressors reaction to the transients (audio above the threshold) e.g: on a drum buss, When you compress it and loud part like a kick or snare goes above the threshold, the quiet parts (reverb, hats,...

Re: How do you EQ dubstep?

I'm thinking therapist's post may of been a little bit tongue in cheek edit* I take that back...just seen his retort Why would you want to take out a massive scoop of 10dB on the mids at the end? That is bad mix practice imo. edit part deux* in fact you shouldn't be eqing that much on the master at ...

Re: Gapless Album Production

i dont think its a bad idea to have a master comp over the whole album. Mastering came about as a way to make a group of tracks work together sonically on an album so you'd only be doing what was the norm years ago. as long as its subtle and done with a good compressor then it should add a singular ...

if you are going to add some reverb, dial in some pre-delay so that there is gap between the transient and reverb. helps keep things punchier whilst still adding space
