1. Make sure everything else is not as loud as drums 2. Sidechain with peak controller, everytime kick is played, reduce volume for everything else 3. Add Maximus plugin (comes with FL) to kicks / snares 4. In EQ slightly boost kicks at around 100Hz and Snares around 200Hz I hope some of this works ...

I sometimes can get stuff to sound better by cutting somewhere between 200-250Hz. ;)

I'm not that good there too, but knowing about consonance and dissonance^ really helps.

Find on youtube/google how to do one, then another, layer them together, tweak each individually however you like, win! :D

I just check what sounds better when it's automated. It's often pitch of OSC slowly going up or down, some parameters of any filter and so on...
And after some distortion and compression I can get pretty sick sounds. :lol:

You can always sample everything you have made so it's CPU light.
