Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@kolto - cool bleepy bit at the beginning, kinda sounds like a supercomputer thang going on. Synth sound's impressive as well however vocals don't work for me at all, never really sound properly in key i'm afraid. Also when the vocals first come in, everything sounds squashed and compressed, like th...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@rebel - drums have a wicked groove, got me moving :D . Sub needs to be a bit more apparent though @mthrfnk - claps with delay were slightly off time and offputting. Very harsh transition, hurt my ears! :a: Little bits of clipping throughout the track and slightly better samples could have been used...

What do you do when resampling?

What do you do when you resample a riff over and over again until you get a wicked sound and that gives rise to some serious inspiration. You then get an idea of a wicked riff that would go well with it, but by this time most of the resampling stages and midi parts have been deleted to save cpu. Wha...

Re: I want to write a film score in a DAW

I think Hans Zimmer uses Logic. But then again he has his own orchestra to record from. I really wanna get my hands on the some of the East West packs but being a student, just don't have a casual couple of grand lying about :(

Theoretically Complex Dubstep

Any good examples of dubstep with high-level music theory apparent? Maybe the use of complex scales or modes etc. So much of modern dubstep just centres around 1 or 2 notes making different weird noises which is good in its own way. However I wanted to know if there are any artists or songs where th...

Why is there a delay when I put Ping-Pong delay on in Ableto

Ok I'm not talking about the delay that the ping-pong puts on. Hopefully I'm not that dumb...I'm talking about when I turn the device from off to on via automation, there is roughly a second gap before the audio reaches a similar level to when it was off. Anyone had this problem before?

MOTU Microbook Clicking and Popping

I bought this audio interface to take the load off the cpu of my fairly old laptop. However, the cpu seems to be more overloaded than before. What's going on!?!?!?!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@rymebox - good song in general. Hi-hats to me were very hard to hear and not very defined. I like the sound at the very beginning particularly, I want to get that sound over a bass wobble like Alpha Centauri (excision remix). @bodom418 - hi-hats seem very drowned out, maybe widen them to give it mo...

Re: January Comp Final!

Girl at the Lion D'Or wins for me, but I still don't get the kick drum rhythm before about 50 seconds. It's syncopated and works well in the rest of the tune, but to me it just doesn't work in the intro, sounds out of time to me. Really like it after that though

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@Kongret, cheers for the input. I am planning to extend the song and add an outro. I agree with the drop though, needs more impact. Now to figure out how to do that. One thing I can SEE from your track is that at 1.08 when the dirty bass comes in, it is not quite as loud which takes away some of the...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@ DJRaynes: I think the intro before the drums comes in needs a bit more gravitas, sounds like a similar feeling to 'Deeper Underground' by Jamiroquai. I like the tune though, could do with more variation for the second chorus. @ Rick Slater: Really like this one, bobbing my head to it all the way t...

Limit To Your Love Bassline

How does James Blake get the underlying wobble in his track to be so damn heavy? It's the go to song for when I need to shake the foundations of my house. I know there are plenty of songs with heavy basslines, ('Anti-War Dub' and 'The Judgement' off the top of my head), but they don't seem to come c...

Re: Finding a scale around G#, A, and A#

How about a minor blues pentatonic? Just like a regular pentatonic scale but with the extra semitone as a passing note. Sounds good on bass, dunno about electronic. So it would be the Eb Minor blues pentatonic of: Eb Gb Ab(G sharp) A Bb Db and back to Eb. (I know it actually has 6 notes not 5 but it...
