Re: Immensely pissed off I can't get this... -.-'
maybe you should introduce that bass line you got goin on a little later, as well as the drums. high pass both of them in, then for the drop use the same bass line but fatten it up and have both the drums and bass hit HARD on the drop. its kinda like a known effect of giving the listeners a little ...

Re: Looking for my first pair of studio headphones
I have the SRH 440s and they are wonderful. A step up from the 240s, I can't really compare the two but I love my cans.
There's a really good review on Sound on Sound somewhere, search their website for the SRH 240s and you should find it.

Re: Scales, modes and the difference... Please explain.
(FluidMoShun, from everything I know about modes you've got the idea a little wrong.. are you saying that you use modes within a chord progression to get ideas for melody?) Yeah they can definitely help spark ideas for melodies. If you're trying to improvise to a chord progression of say: C mi7 - A...

Re: Scales, modes and the difference... Please explain.
So say I was playing in Cmaj, the chord progression could be like C E G, but If I wanted to drop it into the relative minor I could change the chords to A C E? It makes more sense now, it's not about the actual notes i use within the melody, It's more about the chords? I think you have cleared that...

Re: Soundcard Buzzing (iMac USB Power Issue?)
Solved the problem! Turns out it is an iMac specific problem, and possibly unique to my sound card. If you have too many outputs set up something weird happens and everything just gets fucked. I don't really understand it but I just solved the problem using the instructions on this page: http://www....

Re: Soundcard Buzzing (iMac USB Power Issue?)
BUMP. So my soundcard is fine, I had somebody take a look at it and test all the outputs and stuff, and this shit is still happening! Plugged my iMac into a surge protector, and a different outlet... Neither worked. Is there a reasonable possibility that my new iMac is fucked? It seems kind of unrea...

Re: The extremely embarrasing basic question thread
I'm sure this has been answered a million times so.... Mixing on Headphones. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro sound card, will that suffice as a headphone preamp or would I need another piece of gear to get high quality audio to my headphones? Would imaging software help get mixes right? Would a rea...

Soundcard Buzzing (iMac USB Power Issue?)
Alright, so I'm thinking about getting some monitors because headphones aren't really cutting it for sound design/mixing, both of which are things I want to do better. Naturally, before I went out and spend like $400 on some nice Rokits I decided to borrow my friends Rockit 5s and see how they worke...

Re: Am I cut out for College/University?!
I almost failed out of college last year in science with a 53% average, 3 failed courses and a withdrawn course, and this year I'm doing English Lit, I'm sitting around a 70% and all is well. Took a lot of work to get here though. Its important to do something you really enjoy or you just won't do w...

don't do it soley for the pretty colours and ineffable-aesthetics, do it to learn and improve upon yourself, your understanding of the universe, but most importantly, to make you more mindful of your interactions with the people you meet and the environment you're in ,in your day to day life. liste...

Re: if you could tell noob producer you one thing
Learn mixing sooner, rather than just figuring it wasn't really needed. It will really help you out with making your tracks sound better. I guess with Dubstep there seems to be a focus on sounding good rather than actually being creative, but I disagree with the above statement. Anyone can mix your...

Re: near death experiences
Friend of mine fell off a cliff skiing and landed on flat... Thought he was winded, we went to ski patrol, then a medical clinic where he could hardly breathe, then rushed in an ambulance to 2 different hospitals on our way from Whistler to Vancouver... Last I saw of him he literally looked like he ...

Re: Bassline Movement
Is this possible with Logic's ESX24 sampler? I have a sound with different automated effects on it, its about a minute long, and then I bounced, put a filter on it, I have 1/4 notes, 1/8 notes, and 1/16 notes in the 60 second long sound. I loaded it into EXS just as a sample, routed velocity to samp...

Re: Move logic samples + presets to secondary drive?
I just installed it all to my external, never actually moved anything... You could try just putting in your install discs, not installing logic and just installing the extras and then make your other drive your directory. I think all the stuff is in an application support folder somewhere so I guess...

Re: Move logic samples + presets to secondary drive?
I had them on an external for a while and it was terrible, the hard drive wasn't super fast so I wound up having tons of lagging and glitchy shit going on, and just stopped using EXS instruments. If you have a fast external it might work but it would be wayyyy better to just have them on your hard d...

Re: How can I finish what I start?
I had this problem for a long time... You just have to work through the crap. I have produced probably at least an album's worth of terrible songs, and now I'm starting to get stuff I'm happy with (or at least... getting closer). Just finish it no matter how unhappy you are. Just lay out a song stru...

Re: help with picking scales?
Coming from 12 years of classical piano training.... whole tone scales are really popular I thiiiink, depends on what you're making but they can be good for darker, more ambiguous stuff. Minor scales obviously, maybe try a pentatonic, or an octatonic if you want. I'm writing a track that changes fro...

Re: Prog dubstep?
I've always been a huge fan of progressive music. Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, Mars Volta, Roy Harper, Led Zeppelin, Totakeke, BoC... They've arguably influenced me more than any dub step producer or EDM artist. I love psychedelia and I love progressive stuff. When I was playing piano a lot I tried t...

Re: Computer Upgrade (Everything is Crashing!)
that doesn't make sense. the only benefit of using 64 bit is you can use over 4gb of ram. you only have 2gb of ram so 64 bit will make no difference. Yeah I know : / I talked to someone in the recording department at the Tom Lee head office/megastore in Vancouver and he told me to do it, it actuall...
