Re: Good dubstep bass synths?
Trust me, you won't learn anything from youtube tutorials. Just open Massive and try new waveforms you never tried before, new knobs you never used before, add modulators to what you haven't added before, etc! It's the only way to learn. Massive is very complete if you don't follow the typical path ...

Re: Hardware vs Software Compressors...Opinions?
I like to be 100% software, so i can produce on my laptop and headphones when i travel. Don't really see a need for hardware in my life. Plus you'd need to use it as an external effect and then compensate for the delay, very inconvenient. As for any differences, i'd imagine that a software modelled...

Re: fullness and movement -not a complete noob, example prov
Finding the right sounds is also important. You may have some sounds with shit tons of modulation that sound pretty cool but they'll probably be hard to control and to make full because they vary so much. As Chad said above you can layer but if you're after the "full sound" you must choose...

Re: Getting into DJing
No, bringing CDJ's + Mixer would be a pain for a DJ right? :) but yeah, it's also a pain to use CDJ's or Mixers you never used (for example, the CDJ jogwheel is completly different between models). With the computer, you just bring yours and connect it to the mixer. Make sure you have your own cable...

Re: Making synths wider with panning.
Not always. If you duplicate a synth that doesn't have OSC retrigger, both synths will have different phases, so they'll be different and it will sound widetherapist wrote:If the tracks are identical, duplicating and panning doesn't actually do anything does it?

Re: What synth to start with...
I would say Massive, not because it's overused, but mostly because it's a tool that has a lot of power with a lot of simplicity. Perfect to start. You can even get away as a producer using only Massive (yes, there are more synths like this, but Massive is the easiest of them). FM8 for starters is co...

Re: Quick DAW opinion question
I can confirm that Ableton is more CPU intensive than Cubase, but the workflow beats this problem.

Do I have to mention Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and the likes?
As for dubstep (if you can call this dubstep) I think the top of the top notch composition is this:

Re: Getting into DJing
Nowadays? Traktor or Ableton Live. Don't get me wrong, I used to CDJ because it was the top notch when I started. People used Vynil because it was top notch when they started (before you had K7's without pitch control). I'm actually someone who defends that people nowadays don't DJ, but... if you st...

Re: RMS vs Peak and Track Referencing
Yeah for mixing, RMS all the way. Using peak levels, your track will sound like shit because it ain't mastered, so it will be much lower in loudness than the other (and louder = better psychoaccoustically).

Re: Stupid but i'll ask.
Actually, imho, I think headphones are better than monitors for more subtle stuff, unless your monitors are very good AND you have a room treated very well (which is impossible outside a real studio). For example, people that mix with headphones only tend to apply less reverb than people with monito...

Re: Experiment: Mastering and Mixing AT THE SAME TIME
Surely you can;t Master, before you mix, isn't Mastering supposed to put the final finished tune, by giving all the tunes parts there own space within the mix, the icing on the cake, you can't eat the cake without first mixing the ingredients (Sound production), then baking it(arrangement and Mixin...

Re: Experiment: Mastering and Mixing AT THE SAME TIME
Yeah I agree with the going back part, it can, but the opposite also happens. When I home master I ALWAYS go back to the mix and bounce again, usually more than once. This idea has it's origin when I produced psy trance. In psy, you have to balance the kick and the bass perfectly. What happened was,...

http://www.paulohsms.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/okay-meme.jpg I forgot to add on the post that I mix last. I'm still going to do this experiment though  in a very minimalistic tune I'm working (well, not that minimalistic, but it has fewer elements than the usual so it will be easier to mi...

Experiment: Mastering and Mixing AT THE SAME TIME
I know this may look like a very noob question but I ask you to believe (or at least pretend) that I'm not a noob. For most of us who do the mastering ourselves , instead of paying someone, what do you think about mixing and mastering at the same time? In other words: Mixing with a limiter and a com...

Is it possible to use ctrl+c/ctrl+v or ctrl+click to duplicate notes or clips without duplicating the automation? What about the opposite? Hope I was clear.

So the guy has 186 pages talking about him in a dubstepforum, has thousands of internet memes, millions of youtube comments hating him and people still ask themselves why he's so popular?
Who needs fans when you have haters?
