Re: Big Power Hits. How do you do them?
Already said but fill the frequency spectrum, a good kick layered with a good cymbal will do the trick, its all about the sample selection really. Then layer it with the sub and whatever synth action you got going on the track and try to fill up the stereo field. Parallel compression can help make i...

Synthesizing the "bounce" of a kick drum
I know how to synthesize 808 subs/basssdrums, and I can get some nice higher frequencies and hum on them with saturation, eq, compression, and sometimes maxxbass. The thing is, I can't seem to get that sort of growly, ringing, bouncy aspect in the higher frequencies that gives it character and sound...

Another I want that sample thread
Usually these get mostly negative responses, but I'll shoot anyways. I have heard this female "hey" sample in alot of different songs, I know its dumb to just stick with the generic samples everyone uses but I really like this one, and can't find it anywhere or find it in a song clean enou...

Re: What can i add to a saw wave to give it some umph?
Basically, the key is to have more energy in the upper mids and highs, and to eq out some lower mids to get rid of mud and make it sound crunchier. So mess around with some slightly detuned saw waves, distort/boost the upper mids and highs, cut out the lows completely and shelve out some of the lowe...

Re: how to get that sweet reso bass?
lightly bitcrush/lofi a lowpass filtered saw wave with a decent amount of resonance, then just modulate the cutoff. It sounds too simple but I guarantee you will get something close, I just made one myself to make sure and pretty much got it. Thanks for the artist by the way, just made a Banks playl...

Re: Getting Started into a Career of Dubstep
If you want to do this right, you have to drop out of school now and quit any job that you might have. This requires dedication. But don't worry, judging by your wording and your choice of avatar, I can tell that you have a love for music and raw musical ability that just needs technical skills to b...

getting grungy vocals (this might interest you)
I remember seeing people ask about getting those demonic-like vocals and wondering about it myself. There are tons of ways to do it, but this is worth a watch if you are interested. (This video has probably been posted a thousand times but people may not know this part is in there) http://youtu.be/C...

Re: "Chillstep" Soft Synths
If what you are getting is too harsh, try lowpass filters and less distortion, best bet is something that can be subtle like saturation, even better if you have multiband and can have it running on as many bands as possible. Alot of people don't know this for some reason, but when you have the same ...

This might not be much help if you don't have the plugin but izotope's Trash 2 has a sidechain triggered EQ/filter, it is lovely.

@paratroxic: That is really really cool. Maybe I'm missing something because I'm on my shitty headphones, but it sounds like something really interesting that deadmau5 would put out. Finish it up! I think it might sound better if you switch the clap to something more hard hitting (but still small) l...
