Re: ILL-ONE Calm - (Grime / Dubstep)
I agree with edy: The track would benefit a ton from variation. All the elements work quite well, except perhaps for the square-wave-ish synth patch, which sounds a bit off, like the wrong spice in a stew. But things don't change, so the groove quickly becomes too familiar.

Yep, she's definitely out there ...
I love it! It's like watching the world fall apart, and you can tap yer toe to it (kinda sorta).

Opening, rough sketch
Please have a listen to this very rough sketch of an opening for a dubstep tune in 6/4 with an ear to what works and what doesn't work dubstep-wise: https://soundcloud.com/rachmiel/dubstep-opening_rough_sketch Think of this as a skeletal structure that will be fleshed out in the final version: good ...

Re: Kotei - Ruminate
Nice. I agree with pulsewave that it feels incomplete, still needs to be fleshed out a bit.
Also, the melody feels like a tease ... promising something it never quite delivers. Taking it somewhere new and unexpected would be good, I think. Foil listeners' expectations a bit?

Mo' dreamstep
Another attempt at dreamstep: https://soundcloud.com/rachmiel/dreamstep-2 There are gobs of clips from well-known early dubstep tunes in there ... plus buncha other stuff. Still looking for that sweet spot where I get my avant jollies *and* it speaks to dubstep lovers. Comments/guidance welcome. Enj...

Thanks for the listens, guys.
"Very interesting" ... hmm ... this seems to be my fate as a producer!
I truly wish I could make things that people thought sounded great, cool, whatever.
I guess it's the downside of being hooked on thwarting everything I touch.

Re: Dreamstep 1
Guilty as charged. Which probably explains why, even when I'm attempting (sort of) to do something within a conventional genre like dubstep, it sounds ... peculiar. I don't want to let go of that peculiar ... but I would like to find the sweet spot where I can remain true to my soundworld AND make s...

Re: Dreamstep 1
Thanks for the listen.
I did a remix, changed the balance a bit, made the beat a bit more dubby and complex and morphing.
To hear the remix, just click on the SoundCloud thingie above.

Dreamstep 1
Hi everyone, dubstep newbie(ish) here. I'm working on creating what I've been calling dreamstep tunes: gooey complex ungridded oceans of dubstep passages (often ripped/modded from early Burial tunes) with a coherent simple beat and bassline underneath. Any helpful comments on the arrangement, produc...
