Re: Dubstep in the key of?

If you're keeping it on one note then sure you may want to change the key down to the lower notes others have mentioned. If you are writing baseline with more melodic variation you can keep it in c and it gives you the variety to be able to play lower notes below the tonic while still having them he...

Re: What is your method of producing bass lines?

Start with good sound design, you better don't mix mixing and sound design when writing a bass line. The more automation and morphing your sound has the Less you have to worry about musical scales. Anyway depends on the genre you are making, Maybe give us some hints ty. Yeah I'm usually using just ...

Save up buy some treatment then throw in that pair of monitors.

Buy some sennheiser HD 650, you won't regret it.
You will need a good soundcard to drive em.
+1 on either the 650's or the 600's. For an untreated room will take you far!

Re: Why use different EQ plug-ins?

As well as quality and bringing a certain 'vibe' (on some of the analog emulations etc) it's worth thinking about the workflow some offer. Sure you may just want a simple parametric bell but what if you want M/S features? L/R also? different curve shapes, tilt EQ, solo, mute options etc some are gre...

Re: anyone recommend a hardware analogue delay

Yeah guitar pedals can be great and inexpensive for this. Alternatively you may find some cheap/lo-fi units which are noisy etc and for that reason may be cheaper but great if you are looking for something a little more err analogue'y :)

Re: How do you go about processing your piano's?

For a more washed out background'y thing I love drowning it in an EMT140 (UAD) with a 4 second or so tail sounds great. For a more upfront I will use the valhalla with one of the tightest settings, it's borderline chorus at that point but I find it works great at smoothing the attack if you want it ...

Re: Acapella extraction techniques needed

Technology is getting scarily better, things like melodyne DNA etc are pushing things so far that hopefully soon we won't have this problem but for the time being these are never going to sound that great unless you have access to the original project files.

Re: How much of production is random?

I think that "knowledge" based production (stuff based on experience and knowing what you're doing) can get you from A to B a lot quicker so you may make tracks quicker but... Accidents/experiments/random can lead to results that are a lot more interesting so you could end up with somethin...
