Re: Reactive EQing?
Is there such a thing? Just thought instead of emptying out the 80-200hz section on the bass/sub channel... you could leave it and have an eq that pushes those fq's out of the way when present. Almost like a sidechained compressor that works on a small fq range. If you mean an EQ that reduces frequ...

Re: best way to setup drums in logic?
I usually just put my drums in the track as audio, snare on one channel kick on another etc. etc. I find it easier to move all the hits around and I like seeing where the transients are especially when I'm using samples from old funk breaks where the snare doesn't always start on the snap from where...

Re: To make good Dubstep...
Everyone told me this when I first started making tunes. I never stopped listening to bass music, I just made sure I listened to other genres too! I wanted to make Dubstep because I liked listening to it and wanted to have a go at it myself, I don't think the be all and end all is to stop listening ...

Re: Sine or Triangle?
Sine waves are useful for more static subs or subs which change in pitch a lot. If you have a mid range bass which has a lot of movement but doesn't change in pitch then a square with a low pass filter set up with a decent amount of resonance is good for imitating the movement of mids in the low end...

Aren't they acidized? If so they will change to whatever key your tune is in if I remember correctly

Love how some people have clearly spent lots of money on gear and really nice speakers but forgot to treat their room.

Re: Practising Mixdowns
I've never A/B'd my track to another track. When you guys do this do you look for and try to imitate the fullness of the track, or how loud it is? Or anything? Maybe I should try it. It's not for comparing loudness, when you A/B you should do it at the same perceived volume to your track which usua...

Re: Practising Mixdowns
Just make more tunes and mix those instead. Mixing down as you go along I find to be the easiest way to work. Also A/B with artists you like the production of that have a similar style to your track. I do this constantly, but I've finally started making tracks I'm happy with and I'd rather improve ...

Re: why do filters only reach 16khz? Why not 20khz?
yeah the only thing to do really is find a new filter, i dont think using an eq to bring up the high end is a good idea though cos it might cause some phasing problems I'm confused by what you mean... Boosting high end wouldn't really cause phasing problems, yeah EQs put some phase to the boosted a...

Re: why do filters only reach 16khz? Why not 20khz?
Have you actually listened to it in context of your mix? Chances are the hi-hats and cymbals will be taking up plenty of space in that area and it wont be needed on your bass... ITS BASS!?

Re: Question about NI Massive's Scream filter
Maybe generate a really busy tone with massive, look at a frequency analyser then put it through the scream filter and compare the two frequency analysers to see what the filter is doing to it then attempt to recreate it Looking at an analyser will not really help in the way of trying to recreate t...

Re: How to make kicks and snares 'punchier'?
Half the time I find pitching it up a few semitones helps put the punch in the right place, but I do prefer the higher pitched techy sounding snares. Sometimes I will also distort and limit the lower mids round the area of the punch to give it some meat but leave the top end clean so the transients ...

Re: Just brought ableton live! Any tips or techniques?
There are so many tips, tricks and sneaky things to do in Ableton! I would say one of the features I use the most is audio effects racks and instrument racks. In audio effects racks you can set up as many parallel chains as you want on one channel and map multiple parameters to one macro control. Yo...

Re: Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors
hmmm I read that the alesis ones go down to 45 hz, which would mean that yes, a sub would be ideal, but not necessary (I could use headphones) the rokits are more like 100 hz if I'm not mistaken? I've also heard that krk rokits color the sound a hell of a lot, I'm not sure if the alesis ones do too...

Re: Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors
Their frequency response is very similar so you would want a sub for either of those if that was the case. However, I've produced on both monitors and never needed a sub anyway, it also depends on the size of your room too. If you haven't got a big room then a sub would probably be less helpful then...

On a new track you can also select 'Resample' in the I/O section and record what ever you want straight into the track.

Re: Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors
They are not bad for the price. They have little cost cutting points about them which is why they are cheaper. There is no room tuning options on the back like there is on slightly more expensive monitors, instead the manual tells you to put socks in the port holes if it is too bassy. :6: I try to k...
