I personally do. Not all the time however. Usually for chord progressions and melody i do. But i pencil in basses and arps.

Ive never used Reaper, but i suggest you try out the trial or buy the beginner version of Ableton? I actually switched from Reason over to Ableton.

fm8 is more versatile in the sounds it can make. (the track in my sig is made with fm8)

I find it funny when people have FM8 and no clue about what fm synthesis is. You definitely didn't drop $200 on something that you had no clue about. Possibly try the Modern Talk or Groan waves, with a sine an octave below, all detuned a little. And some distortion. NEVER EVER USE MODERN TALKING WAVEFORM. It's really overused. @topic: It sounds like FM8. You should learn about FM Synthesis. Good thing i have FM8! Never really figured it out too ...

You take a sound and split it into different output each with a different band of frequencies, adthen you process each band separately and then sum them back together.
