Re: To All Trained Ears: identify any problems in this mixdo
Funny thing is I really don't listen to a lot of "bro"step, I really prefer to listen to Drum and Bass & deep dubstep styles more like what you produce. I listened to Old Bill In Space and I actually think there is a lot to learn from in your drum work so I'll take your advice into pl...

Re: To All Trained Ears: identify any problems in this mixdo
@ lloydy Thanks for the feedback. Honestly I am not fishing for compliments just trying to get the damn thing to perfection, but thanks anyways. I'm pretty much isolated in a brand new city where I do know too many other producers so this forum is among one of only places I can go to for good advic...

To All Trained Ears: identify any problems in this mixdown
Not particularly looking for any compliments or anything just mainly want to hear from someone experienced in mixing (and mastering too if you have some useful advice to apply to mixing) Been working on this track for a while and I would like to know from well trained ears if you hear any inconsiste...

Re: Adding loudness to your track.
It seems to me that everyone has figured this out, but me. Yes, adding loudness to your tracks, and of course, without ruining it. Everytime I listen to a song on Soundcloud they are always much louder than mine. I always mix my tracks so they peak between -6 and -3dB. When I'm done mixing I normal...

Re: Layering
you want overlap. the sharper the slope of the cuts the more unnatural and thin it will sound. i'll try to have it over lap at frequency's that aren't as important, that waY if theres any gap or phasing at those frequency's it wont hurt the fundamentals or important texture Think I've heard of this...

Re: How can you really find a good use for 808 kicks?
I never use 808 kicks because they sound like a pop and that's about it. If I compare them to an average kick from say the vengance or Thomas Penton series there's no way they can compare in terms of punch or depth. Does anyone else find this? I don't understand how anyone can really make good use ...

Layering
I have a rather challenging riddle that has to do with frequency splitting for various layers. For example, Let's say I'm layering a heavy bass synth, like a reese for example, and I start doing various high passes and low passes to particular layers and then I bus each layer to a single channel, th...

Cool thanks. I'll experiment with it somenowaysj wrote:Drop the pro track into edison and hit S. You'll see a spectrogram rather than a waveform. Very very informative.

Re: EQ
Put a track in the style you like into your daw, view the waveform as a spectrogram if your daw has that ability or put a spectrograph on it, and listen to and watch the track. Jot down notes and fill in your questions. They playing a sub, where does it sit? 55hz, check. They play an edgy mid bass,...

EQ
This is a question for a professional. About where should the following portions of a track sit in the EQ range for everything to have a decent balance/space for each other: 1. Hi Hats 2. Percussion 3. Kicks 4. Snares 5. Lead Synths 6. Sub Bass 7. Heavy Basslines 8. FX And any other sounds I'm leavi...

Re: Reason is Screwing up.
Okay I have been experiencing 2 problems lately. One is that I cannot solo or mute things in the sequencer. Rather when I press it just blinks once and as soon as I let go nothing happens. My Second problem is that automation is fucking up. Every time I automate a filter to bypass instead of being ...

Re: Cracked software = cracked sound
Wow this is definitely an interesting thread and very emotional I might add. My particular stance on this topic is very much in the gray zone as I have never pirated any DAW or VST in my entire life but I have had friends who have given me VST's. From time to time I will download certain songs from ...

Thanks for the tips, you guys are awesome. I'm going to experiment with this for a few weeks or so then post up a track where I feel I've done this technique some proper justice.

Resampling Tricks...
There may already be a thread on this & excuse me if there is. I've begun to dive into some heavy re-sampling, and there are some basslines where I'm sure they're doing lots of re-sampling but one cannot be completely sure of what exactly is going on. Have a listen to the bassline on this partic...
