Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Disclaimer: I'm using monitoring headphones so I can't speak to anything in the sub frequencies. @official9skies (did you give 3 pieces of feedback to others before posting? ARE THERE NOT RULES?!) White noise in the intro just sounds like my headphones are broken, why aren't they swept? I hear it in...

How much does he make off merch?
WHY even bother being on a label if they don't cover your mastering costs, promotion, don't provide a booking agent, do not cover sampling fees (50%! Are you kidding me!), and simply skim half of your Beatport earnings?

Re: 'live' sets that aren't really live
Not that it's the only thing that matters. Just that a well-selected vinyl set has tons more creativity and technical prowess than a lazy ableton spastic trigger fest. Of course it is. And a child can draw better than a blind adult, a Chevy is more reliable than a Nissan that is currently on fire, ...

Re: Parallel Processing
With the exception of using sends to route many tracks to, I don't understand why people make a separate track for parallel processing. Isn't it just the same thing as fiddling with the dry/wet?

Re: 'live' sets that aren't really live
The proposition that tune selection is the only thing that matters for a DJ is an interesting thing to say.
If that were true then 100% sync buttoned sets and maybe even fully pre-recorded sets are totally fine given that the right tunes get played.

(though "performance entertainment" is probably a better definition because you are not there to express yourself, but rather to entertain the crowd), Youuuuuu, have been going to the wrong DJ sets! ProTip: The skill of the DJ isn't in matching the BPMs of two records (as stated a few tim...

My God this KOAN Sound x Asa EP!
Been listening to this EP for the past month or so and gets better every time I hear it. I have so many "how the fuck do they do that?!" questions but I don't even know where to start! The arrangement and composing is outstanding. They have so many elements playing simultaneously but they ...

Re: 'live' sets that aren't really live
Yeah I still consider it fundamentally DJing. Yes you're triggering clips instead of playing full tracks but you've also got the sync button. You're kind of obligated to do more than a vinyl DJ would, no need to get up your own ass pretending like it's hard. Beatmatching using only faders takes inf...

Well its certainly more interesting than playing two songs at the same bpm and then crossfading from one to the other for two hours straight. Not saying there aren't DJ sets that aren't boring as fuck. But the point here is when laptop DJs try and make something more out of what they're doing by sa...

Eptic, to me, is the epitome of the "UKF" style generic brostep circa 2010-2012.
I will give this EP a listen.

Re: Looking for a keyboard to work with Ableton
OP you are very uninformed about this topic. Both the Akai and Novation product you mentioned are not synths or standalone keyboards they are MIDI controllers. To paint a picture its like if you said you were interested in a soft synth like Massive or Sylenth1 and then asked us if some arpeggiator p...

Re: Want To Get Rich? Turn This Into A Controller/Instrument
Great thread OP! I had a similar idea one day: http://static.fleshlight.com/landing/black-friday-packs/flight/reviews.png?lang=en But then I realized I would probably end up writing my bassline for about five minutes and then think "What the fuck was I thinking?" and leave the house to nev...

Re: Minimal Setup Production Challenge
This is a great thread OP. I was actually just thinking of a similar drill the other day. I'm an acquaintance with a top quality mixing engineer and he was telling me a story about how in some studies back in the day they did their mixing with TWO tapes! I was thinking I could duplicate this by reco...

Re: chords used in old school dubstep?
In my personal opinion, I never thought that oldschool sound was special because its producers had mastered music theory. It kind of reminds me of the trap trend of today -the progressions and melodies are often just an ornament on whats going on in the lower frequencies. If you looking to achieve t...

Re: fitting sub and mid range together
In the past, depending on what mid bass I am using, reese's work well for this, I have high passed them and used as a sub. This can sometimes work really perfectly well so that mid and sub sound as one. :a: I think sub frequencies tend to be the domain of sonic theory and technicality, meaning ther...
