Read the liscense before you reverse engineer,
its illegal to reverse engineer most of the "big names" VSTs.
for example : Voxengo.

what we used to do is call up or in your case email the manufacture and ask if they were an authorized retailer, if not could be suspect also like i said try going through the checkout process and make sure there isn't any hidden fees had plenty of people say x place advertises this for say $50-70 ...
