Meeting other artists & musicians
I'm so immersed in music now that hanging out with my old friends became boring (mostly cause they sit around playing video games and smoking pot) I've met a few people who were into making music and we hit it off right away talking about plugins, sound design, technical music stuff. became really g...

Re: Whens the right time to invest in monitors?
Depends on your current setup. Are you using flat headphones? If you have flat headphones, then use those until you think they aren't enough. I mix on headphones and my tunes translate really well. There's only one system I've heard them on that didn't translate well, but I'm pretty sure something ...

Whens the right time to invest in monitors?
Just wondering on what everones opinions are regarding "the right time" to invest in some studio monitors. I'm at the point where I think I've got some good tunes and it's hard to share it with people without it translating poorly, thats my thought. What do you guys think? A lot of people ...

Re: Focusrite Saffire 6 or M-Audio Fast Track Pro?
Honestly all money aside, you can get a single midi hookup cable for $5, unless you got 2 pairs of monitors you don't need a/b, as there's also the headphone jack. I think I'm gonna end up sticking with the 2i2 it's quality is just too damn good. Selling the FTP on ebay if you're interested =P Also:...

Re: Focusrite Saffire 6 or M-Audio Fast Track Pro?
Ok, well I have some more input on this topic. The reason I hated the FTP was because I would get random pops and glitches, not because of latency, it would just randomly start glitching out of nowhere for unil I reset it. Ran some tests with DPC latency checker and it was interference from my wirel...

Re: MPK Mini Owners: Flimsy knobs + usb soldering?
they are really shady at guitar center about that stuff. they want to peddle off the 30 day satisfaction guaruntee gear, probably because I pricematched it so low they just want to give the crap to me. I called up the guy and he was all emberassed and was like "the guys just get it from the bac...

MPK Mini Owners: Flimsy knobs + usb soldering?
So I finally caved and got the MPK mini and fell in love with the thing, and recently guitar center tried to sell me an returned item for the new item price, so im wondering if all akai minis are flimsy or just this one I got? When I push down on the knobs it sounds like cheap glue is breaking and f...

Re: basic mixdown gear (currently reading moneyshot)
money shot says these $200 cans have the most accurate bass frequency response so... A/B these with some HS50m's seems like the cheapest accurate setup... still $500.. VRM box is $99 LOL, anyway like I said I'm not going for a pro mix here whats the shit u guys use most and what can I get away with....

Re: Focusrite Saffire 6 or M-Audio Fast Track Pro?
I have a fast track pro that I hate if you wanna buy it. Got a focusrite 2i2 to replace it since the converters and preamps are way better, got it for $115. It has one less out than you wanted but you can always buy a $20 midi box if you need the midi. If I had the money I would get the 14 because i...

basic mixdown gear (currently reading moneyshot)
BIG EDIT: Been reading through the moneyshot posts; macc's posts on gain structure, leaving enough headroom by putting the drums at aruond -12 to -10db, etc makes a lot of sense. You don't want frequencies clashing and cancelling eachother out. I'm emberassed to say that I've been leaving my mixer t...

I dunno if anyone mentioned this but you can run a few different peak controllers each emphasizing the particular range you want.

Re: How about this laptop for a portable production rig?
btw I picked up the Akai MPK Mini since everyone here said they are in love with it, I don't know if I got a bad one or what but it seems like an overall poorly designed controller. The knobs feel like they could fall off at any second. I highly recommend the Korg NanoKontrol2 as it has a MUCH more ...

Re: How about this laptop for a portable production rig?
If you're looking for audio quality Focusrite's Scarlett 2i2 has the best converters on the market and I just got mine for $120 pricematched at GC. Probably the best converters and preamps under 300. 24 bit 96 khz.

Re: Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?
So I think it's worth it to get the Saffire, just to get rid of the god damn crackles and pops, plus its about 100x better converter wise and I'll need it for the mackies anyway. Should I get the Novation Nocturn25 or the MPK 25??? for $150 and 15% off it's kinda hard to beat what you get with it. I...

Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?
So basically I ended up not like the keys on my akai mpk 61, that and the size was way too huge I never used all the keys. If you read my earlier posts I got the nanoKontrol2 for all my transport/knobs/faders/buttons needs. So I have $400 in guitar center credit and I'm trying to see where's the bes...

Re: Is this better than the Akai MPK Mini??
edit: Went to go make some dubstep on my laptop and realized the synthstation is a small piece of crap and I should just sell my iPod and not buy it. When I was setting the wobbles for I was itching for a knob, so I'd definitely say I need some knobs.. I drummed out the beats on my keyboard but it s...

Re: Is this better than the Akai MPK Mini??
There's a reason it's $50, it's a piece of shit really. It works, but you get what you pay for. I'd call those 'disposable controllers'. It's better than the first Nanokontrol, but not by much. Plus they removed a couple of features and the master fader, but fixed 2 bugs. The MPK is way better qual...
