Re: USB Audio Interfaces/Mixers
Highly recommend the RME UC. They use a proprietary protocol depending on wether you are on pc or mac resulting in great latency and extremely solid performance.

Re: "Compression is for kids."
I think compression is a great tool when it is warranted. I love compression. I also love those old recordings but those old masters would be rejected today. The aesthetic is different. Tastes change. I think as long as you do things that serve your taste, you don't need to justify anything.

Re: Best Symphonic Orchestra Plug-ins
Check out Spitfire Albion. Full orchestra and sounds great. Symphobia is also good for a general tool for everything but it costs more. I would stay away from EW productions. They were once the only thing other than VSL but their new proprietary sampler is just brutal.

Re: What MIC?
will second the 58.
Some billboard classics have used that as the main vocal mic. Granted the room and preamp will matter but given how dense EDM is, any detail you don't get won't really be missed.

Re: On patience, hard work, and being an artist
the initial caption with Edison talking about hardwork is rather ironic. Not that i don't think he worked hard but he did work hard at exploiting the hardwork of others.

Re: Copyright help
the process is usually automated and heavy handed. For example, if your name is madonna and you upload anything to rapidshare, it will be flagged and marked as illegal. I would be very careful in naming a cover you made despite the legality to avoid the algorithms that will mark perfectly legit ...

Re: Chord Progressions & scales questions
For me, theory is a framework that helps you encapsulate alot of information in a system that is geared towards a particular trend in music , in this case western tonality. Intervals barely scratch the surface of the amount of information there is.
