I'm new to producing dubstep and am interested in learning the makeup of a dubstep track.
I'm looking for things like key features, how many drum loops are generally used, how many synths do you use/layer for bass and lead etc, any other tricks?
Not looking for any special secret giveaways, just ...

Reason Forums
Are there any?
There used to be one called ReasonFreaks back in the day but it seems like it's not been updated for a year or two. Anything else similar out there that's a specific Reason forum with possible Refills etc?

Re: Software Advice for Dubstep
As I initially said, I already have Cubase 7 and am familiar with it as I use it a lot for scoring and mastering guitar-based music. I also used to be a proficient Reason user and love the inclusiveness feel of the back panel wiring etc and being able to personalise wiring etc.
I also have a few ...

Re: Software Advice for Dubstep
Cheers all! I've taken the punt and bought Reason 6.5.
I love Cubase 7 workflow and used to Cubase for scoring and mastering etc. I use VSTs and have invested in things like Altiverb so don't really wanna lose out. Using Reasons synths and Kong look like a perfect electronic tool, and ReWiring it ...

Software Advice for Dubstep
Years ago I used Reason 2 for creating hip hop backing for a band I produced. However, not really been involved much with electronic production since then. I've now got the bug again and want to get into making dubstep. Yes, I'm new so please don't be too harsh!

Re: Sonar X1, Reaper or Studio One 2
Maxxan - I come from Cubase.
I've used Reason, FL, Cubase and Sony Acid way back when.
I am the most comfortable with Reaper.
It's definitely my preference.
I also still own Cubase 5 by the way but I still choose Reaper.
That's interesting. I also do some orchestral film scores as well as ...

Sonar X1, Reaper or Studio One 2
Which of these is the best 64 bit DAW (until Ableton gets stable at 64 bit) would you recommend using for Dubstep, using both loops and newly created midi instruments and synths?

Not at all.
Just curious as to what people look for when hunting down samples.

Vocal Sampling Tips
I know how to slice vocals in Ableton by slicing to 128 part MIDI notes etc, which works amazingly well.
However, slightly lacking on the picking out the vocals bit. Mainly looking to master skills of picking out random vocal samples, mainly for dubstep drops, kind of like Skrillex's "Call 911 Now ...

Dude I'm doing a weekly tutorial series about Ableton Live, already 11 videos online and I take you through the entire track from start to end. It is not completely Dubstep, but a Dubstep/Electro mix. Check the tutorials at http://www.youtube.com/user/ARTFXSTUDIOS

Re: Do People actually DJ with virtualdj?
Could swear I saw DJ Spinn using it before (but he also uses vinyl and CDs), not 100% sure but it looked like it to me.
I don't see a problem with it really, there's only so much virtual software can do when it comes to DJing, I think they are fairly equal and the rest is just a brand name ...

Ableton Tut Pack
Anyone know of any Ableton tutorial pack/set at all for making dubstep? I'm trying to achieve the sound of Knife Party/Skrillex but all the separate tutorial ssuggest different things. Tried to work my way through but always lose it. Also, struggling in terms of types of notes and automation used ...
