Best Way to Sample Something?
Okay besides shitty youtube to mp3's what's the best and fastest way to go about sampling audio from my computer to where I can almost immediately use the sample in my DAW without changing audio drivers and messing with all kinds of craziness.

Re: Tell me why my songs sound so unprofessional
Alright, I'll try a quick list
[*]Drums don't seem to cut through the mix (try sidechaining like everything to the kick just a bit, except other drums)
[*]Overall muddy mixing in general (try using more EQ to ensure that everything "has its place in the mix" [If you want some more info on this ...

Tell me why my songs sound so unprofessional
I'm not talking about musical/melodic wise because I'm getting much better in that area. I mean my overall mix and quality. It just sounds like it's been made in a toaster.

Where did you learn your sound design at?
When i search on youtube all I find is bullshit about "How to make a skrillex fat heavy drop bass", or "Knife Party crazy talking bass", etc. etc.
I really just want a few pointers on where I can find helpful tutorials of some sort where I can better enhance my sound design. I seem to be struggling ...

Re: Transposing vocals like an instrument?
Ok here's how I would do it using Ableton 8 or 9.....
Thank you so very much for the HQ post! :D
Yeah I think bouncing it to melodyne would be a better choice because I don't believe ableton lets you see what semitone you are at.
Thank you very much and I'm going to try that melodyne trick out ...

Transposing vocals like an instrument?
So I really have a thing for vocal chops and vocal melodies. I'm pretty decent at it to but I can't seem to get down this technique. I want to be able to transpose a part of a vocal without time stretching (so no a sampler wouldn't work). At the same time I also want to be able to use other parts of ...

Re: When writing a song what's the first thing YOU go to?
Yeah that's the way to go. The only problem I have his when I start transferring all the midi to instruments, sound design tends to make me lose my creativityOfficialDAPT wrote:A catchy chord progression and melody!

When writing a song what's the first thing YOU go to?
I'm really trying to get some new creative ways to begin writing my songs.
For example: Do you write all the notes/midi out in 1 piano channel and then when you're done break the notes up and begin sound design? Or do you jump straight to sound design and build from there?

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
On another note, this is my latest growl. It is marvelously similar to MUST DIE's growl from octupus; the technique must be the same:

Re: Why does everything sound so muddy?
EQ, probably much more cutting freqs than boosting too.
Your bass[es] have so much going on frequency-wise that's amazing I can hear the kicks at all, in fact.
Thanks, I was boosting a bit so I just did the opposite and cut the kick from the bass freq.
Sounds better, but could still sound much ...

Why does everything sound so muddy?
I've been using the sames drums for a few months so now I created new ones, but I can't get my mixdown right and it sounds all fucked up with the bass.
Here's a clip of it:

Re: Why can't my saws and squares sound as good? :|
While I'm sure you can make this sound with basic waveforms like square and saws, but I just wanted to tell you there is another way to make this synth. I used massive and some odd waveforms and got this sound perfect and added a tiny bit of chorus and reverb. I don't remember what waveforms the ...

Re: Sampling other songs - copyright or safe to use?
If it's from a song in the past 60 years, odds are it's no public domain. Copyrights last for the life of the author plus 70 years, unless transferred, then the life plus 70 starts again. Odds are the samples are either in the public domain and anybody can access them or they make the actual synths ...

Sampling other songs - copyright or safe to use?
Alright so this has crossed my mind a lot. There are tons and tons of songs that have samples from other songs such as Daft Punk, Skrillex, The Prodigy, and the list can go on forever. How is this legal? Is it because most of the samples are very old and the copyright expires or what? For example ...
