He means load a kick into a sampler and transpose the pitch to suite.

Not really, you can design kick drum in a VA synth, most already have presets for that. As someone suggested before there are "laser" tutorials for massive on youtube with a different approach. Take a look at it too.

a kick drum patch/preset from your analog/va synth, if you don't want to program from the scratch, starting with a kick drum works great

look at this video, at 2:28 he loads a kick drum and start messing with it at random, in some momments it gets that ...
