Re: Clear mix?
Most important things for a clear mix are: EQ Balancing Levels of each sound in relation to each other If you get the two things above down, your mix will be clear, but to actually get a mix to sound punchy, professional, together and cohesive, is all about how the sounds gel together, the source sa...

Re: studio headphones
Just to stir things up a bit, I do highly rate the Beyer 880 pros.
Semi open backs, Apparently it's good for studio/production use, creating a flat response by letting the sound bleed out slightly so you don't over/under do it with low end stuff etc.

Re: How do you guys approach layering up your drums?
I used to layer my snare and kicks, but now I just use one kick and one snare sample and process them to hell and back. If you find the right source sample your golden. I think because I like to keep things as simple as possible trying to fit 2 or 3 snares together annoys me sometimes, if it doesn't...

Re: Barely Alive Rifle Blow Kiss
That makes sense I guess, I don't use ableton so I thought there was something different about the way it works compared with logic. I like their sound, you can tell there is lots of saturation and things are distorted to the max, but it's done to just the right amount that it still sounds clean and...

Re: Barely Alive Rifle Blow Kiss
I was really confused by this video, they said they have their drums at 0. I thought drums were meant to be around -10 etc, if they have them at 0 isn't that taking up all of their headroom??

Re: Making Snares? How?
Hey Kaastro, I feel you on this, getting the right snare can be a bit of a mission sometimes :u: , for starters, to get the type of snare you're wanting you either have to layer snare samples or find a really decent single snare sample. The source sample is key. after that it's all about subtle effe...

Re: Getting fat drums without eating your headroom!
I find I get this problem sometimes too. I generally always have my low cuts using 24db and 18db slopes, I find anything less than 24 or 18 lets too much of the low end through leaving slack at the bottom of the sound (on basses, kicks, snares etc). The way I get round the phasing which only happens...

Re: Getting fat drums without eating your headroom!
The source sample is definitely the most important thing, the less processing you have to do the better. there are always multiple ways to get fat drums, compression, transient shaping, saturation/distortion, eq, parallel compression and also the actual volume in relation to the other elements of th...

Re: What all do you guys compress?
The only places I like to apply compression is on buses, just to help glue elements together (Snares, basses, Kicks etc). I can't actually think of a time when I have used it on an idividual channel yet tbh. But as always, there is no right or wrong way as to how much to you use compressors. Like so...

Re: Need a new soundcard - recommendations?
Hey up, I have had my Focusrite Saffire 6 for a while now and its a great solid piece of kit, never failed on me once and I think it has all the requirements you need (phantom Power etc). It's around about £140 brand new, so within your budget. http://uk.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/saffire-6-...
