Breaking any workflow involves stepping out of what feels comfortable. Sometimes that actually means simplifying your production a little bit depending on the genre. Options -> MIDI setting (or just hit F10) -> thebn click on the curve for velocity -> and level off the top. Thanks 3za, good tip! Didn't realize that option was there! Whenever I hang with other producers we just talk about whatever and the convo always leads to music at some point and then production. No need to force it or have a pre-existing list of inquires lol!!

Nothing wrong with using a preset as a starting point. Like others I will usually tweak to taste as its very rarely I find a preset that sounds like it fits perfectly into the song I am working on as is.
