Re: The Lazy Drop
I generally leave the first kick out in certain areas in a track, but not normally on the drop. Sometimes I do, and it's all good.
I call this a ghost kick because you expect a kick to be there in your mind but it never shows up.

Re: Bought my first bit of equipment, need help.
To be honest, that looks like a wedding dj setup.
Try to recoup as much of your money as you can and get a decent setup. DJ gear is something you kind of have to shell a bit out for.

Just lightly saturate.
I don't think it's really worth it for the few applications a dubstep producer would use it for.

The woosh sound in techno/techhouse/etc.
Can't forget the woosh (also known as the tsssssss or shhhhhhhh, depending on where your highpass is sitting).

Re: Production Mixers for Ableton?
Yes, it's called a midi controller. Searching for it will probably find you lots of information on midi keyboards instead. I have an APC40 which is designed for Ableton, so you don't really have to screw around with mapping it.

Re: 2 BPM Difference Going to Affect the Bass?
It's kind of odd the amount of people who are kind of perplexed by this question... Very simple: If you increase the speed, does the pitch change? Yes. Sound is just waves. Pitch is measured in the number of cycles per second (Hertz), or how many times a wave goes from a peak (/\), to a trough (\/),...

Re: Ableton 9 trial available now!
While 9 looks really sick, I haven't really fully worked through 8, so I'm not in a huge hurry to spend some cash. Although automation curves are almost worth the price. if you own live 8, it's free.... i just downloaded it like 30 mins ago. looks weird. i dunno how thrilled i am to have to learn a...

Re: How do you know how much compression to use?
http://media.soundonsound.com/sos/feb13/images/Pcomp-03-downcomp-and-dynrange.jpg This is from February's Sound on Sound. There was an article on parallel compression that gives a good explanation of compression and how it works. I find it makes more sense when its in a diagram, or your compressor ...

Re: Anyone using Waves NLS/Slate VCC/Satson consule emulatio
I use VCC/VTM and think they're really great plugins. My biggest caveat is how much cpu it hogs when you have them slapped on every channel (using a MacBook that is a few years old). I tried to make a template for every track I start, but it was at 60% usage at standalone. I just leave them off unti...
