Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!
I agree but judging by the stuff hes already made, theory isnt what is bottlenecking him at all. The theory required to make this stuff is so minimal - chords + extensions, note divisions, modes, and not much else really. Mixing and sound design is what he is really going to have to sink a lot of t...

I listened to that Kesha remix, I really like the kick you used in that song. I think your number one priority over everything should be improving sound design http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view/271004/arnold-schwarzenegger-screams-o.gif NO NO FUCK NO BULLLLLLLLLSHIT FIRST WORK ON YOUR MUSIC THEORY SK...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!
FIRST WORK ON YOUR MUSIC THEORY SKILLS AND CREATIVITY THEN WORK ON SOUND DESIGN SO YOU WON'T' BECOME ANOTHER SHITTY BRO PRODUCER He should make whatever the hell music he wants to make. What Im saying is that based on what Ive heard on his soundcloud he needs to focus on sound design and learning h...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!
Does anybody think Massive has it's limitations or any weaknesses in creating instruments? I know it's probably the best for making bass sounds, but what about all the other sounds? Is there any reason I should invest in another plug-in> I've already invested a ton just for Massive because someone ...

Holy shit man.. I have one tip. STOP USING OVER DISTORTED LOUD MODERN TALKING Hey, thanks for the tip. How productive.... So got any real advice? Or do you prefer being a jerk towards those who are legitimately taking this $h!t seriously and trying to learn? How obnoxious. But if you'd like to cont...

Re: best filter to use for growls?
No I don't assume you're a noob, I assume that anybody who wants a certain program to make a certain sound, one, doesn't know much about sound design, and two, is working off the mentality that a noob could play a PRS better than he could play an ibanez geo, the equipment doesnt matter. If you're w...

Re: best filter to use for growls?
i wouldn't use camelphat though, i think it sounds super digital, i would rather use just a simple filter, a free one like Crayon filter. Google it, it does the trick for me ( distance uses it in a tutorial ), just mess around with the filters and automate the cutoff, gives you some serious movemen...

Re: Stereo-izing Sub Bass? Is it legal?
It will be more powerful in mono. You can do whatever you want but IMO if you want to stereo-ize your bass keep the sub mono and make the mid-bass/low-mids wide

Re: Some mastering Techniques I've personally used.
You start with talking about resampling the mix. As an engineer you are always advised to avoid any resampling at 'all' costs. Because you simply loose quality. Digital audio isn't perfect to begin with, so resampling just adds to this. So when you finish a tune you just keep it as a project in you...

Re: "Brostep" Sub-bass
You of course want to hi-pass the mid-range basses and everything else. Either option 1 or 2 depending on what kind of bass sound you want. Real low basses should be like 35 - 60 hz

Re: What soft synth to start with?
Massive is the best starter synth IMO software or otherwise. Its easy to use and intuitive but packed with features at the same time, and the way the UI is designed it really makes you understand how synthesis works

Re: Mastering is not a plug in
in the non-EDM world, mastering engineers work on the record as a whole; ie, the last record i mixed had 12 songs mixed by 3 engineers in 3 different studios, mixing material that was tracked at 5 different places. Someone may mix a tune really quietly, someone may mix just shy of 0db, some tunes m...

Re: Mastering is not a plug in
A bit unrelated but this is something I've always wondered; why doesn't the mixing engineer just master the song also? Like why is it even a separate thing and not just a part of the mixing process? Very good question. Some do and manage to get alright results but it's going to be tougher than send...
