The ableton stock vocoder seems to work pretty well although I don't have anything to compare it to. Yeah from what I've seen it looks pretty nice, I'd say it gives a different sound from the vocodex though, which I feel is a little warmer. I did, but every time I try to distort the mids further I lose all the definition. I suppose part of that is my inability to get my EQs right as well. And are there any general suggestions for compression/limiting these types of sounds?blinkesko wrote:Tried freq splitting it?

As has been said before, FM synthesis can be really powerful but also can have quite the learning curve. I really suggest ya'll give it a try though. Very minimal fx processing can still give you a really nice sound. I cooked this up in FM8 and the only other thing I did was whack Live's amp onto it...
