Re: mixdown question
Get used to the idea of mixing and mastering as separate jobs. People put so much effort into mastering these days because they don't really know why they are mastering a track. Ultimately you don't need to master a tune until you are putting out an EP or album. The point is to add some normality to...

Re: Learning
I will save you some time. First you need to look into Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). They are the main bit of software you will use to crate music. Big names are; Ableton, Cubase, Logic (Mac only) and Reason. Each has it's own merits and workflow. There are some free DAWs about, Fruity Loops, R...

Re: Improving the beats, expanding your dimensions about mak
First of all, I thought I'd point out that it really depends on what you want your drum patterns to be. For example, in IDM/Breakbeat stuff I'd argue that usually, focus is all on the drums. However, a lot of hip-hop/rap/dubstep etc tend to focus on other things and so the drum patterns are basicall...

Bump?
This feedback area has declined somewhat over the last couple of years.
I am as much to blame as anyone.

Spend longer learning. One bit at a time. Will take years and you will never really be as good as you want to be. Otherwise, give up.

People of the forum. He said he was on anti-psychotics so don't fuck with him this time. If we were to decide on just one group of people in the would that above all others should not be fucked with he would be in that group. I know there are some people who will still do it. I hope your demons wil...

Re: A bit of advice/tips/facts etc for those just starting o
100% Agree to it all other than this: Try and finish tunes even if you don't keep them. Total opposite for me. Learning to say "fuck it, move on." was THE biggest contributor to me having fun producing again. Again, I agree with this, but am thinking maybe putting it slightly different. I...

Re: A bit of advice/tips/facts etc for those just starting o
USE YOUR EARS, train them and learn how to pick out details. You should know the difference between 300hz and 1k by using your ears. Furthermore you should know what a major and minor scale & chord sound like. DO,RE,MI,FA,SO,LA,TI,DO <- learn the shit out of that and you will be able to transcr...

A bit of advice/tips/facts etc for those just starting out
This is just a little post giving a bit of advise to people facing the daunting task of learning to make electronic music. Please add as much as possible but try to keep arguments to a minimum. Share ideas, experiences etc. Here is some of the stuff I have learned over the last 3 years or so: 1. DAW...

Re: Echoi - MANIAC - [Dark, growly]
The second half of the tune where it kicks in again is great. 1st half is good too, but that second half really is nice. Makes it feel worth while listening up to it. Really like the realism of that snare at different velocities.
Great work

Re: Loose Screws (sounds like old mala/loefah etc)
Really nice tune! I was kinda hoping for a switch up in the drums when it drops again at 1.50, and maybe once or twice throughout the tune. Even if its just for 8 or 16 bars at a time, I think that would really add something to the tune. Feel as though by half way through I'd heard most of what the ...

Re: John - Vortex (170, D&B)
The sequencing and variation are quite nice... except in the drums - maybe a bit more variation here. Otherwise, it doesn't get boring. I'd look at distorting a lot of the elements. And also, cut the tail off of those rides a bit, get a bit more transient goin on with them. This should help them sta...

John Frusiante - The Empyrean. Not EDM at all but a truly skilled (and different) album! JF is a true musical genius. Definitely worth a listen if you want some inspiration for new directions. I would also recommend watching this interview with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYZQcS_wKzs . This...

Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
i use studio one v2.5.1 i cant explain what makes it good but after using logic/reason/Flstudio/cubase/sonar/reaper/renoise/ableton i found a daw after years i will stick with Exactly the same with me. It's weird how I kept moving seemingly upwards in the DAW department and studio one seems to have...
