Re: List Of Members Collaboration // Collabs Thread
What DAW do you use? Cubase7 with Reason 5 How long have you been producing for? Couple of months What VSTs do you favour? Massive, Sylenth, All Reason Instruments What artists/labels would you say most clearly reflect your sound? Not really sure... Influences (both inside & outside of Dubstep) ...

Re: i dont get all the people bitching about logic x
Started with Reason, then Ableton 8, then Logic 8/9, then Cubase 6/7. No Pro Tools, Studio One, etc but let's face it, most DAWs share the same core feature sets with different workflows. No DAW will ever be perfect. If I had my wish, I would like to take the session view from Ableton, with Cubase's...

Re: Anyone know of any cheap VSTs similar to ---------------
Kontakt is great but I'd like to nominate Reason. Vienna's pretty good too but it's crazy expensive. I have Omnisphere and it's good for some Pianos and Strings but not that great for horns. Omnispehres good for Atmosphere sounds/Pads. I know many will disagree but Reason has some great refills for ...

Re: Raw talent vs potential etc
Knowledge or the continual process of learning will ALWAYS trump neglected talent Simply put, 20/80 rule. 20% of how much you know 80% of how much you're willing to work/learn to get what you want. Yes, talent is a factor but not the main ingredient to success. Many talented people do not obtain suc...

Re: Need advice on Sub Bass
In addition to FatScout's recommendation, you may want to cut some of the other frequencies out. Sometimes when sounds are fighting for space, it can make the mix sound less than perfect. For Sub bass - Cut everything below 40 or 50 hz and also anything above 100- 120 hz. Keep 50-100 hz For Mid - C...

Re: Need advice on Sub Bass
My Sub is usually just a separate channel away from all the other bass parts, so it's not even in the same group (nor the same rack.) 90% of the time it's usually just a sine wave playing the same notes as my mid/high bass (usually an octave lower but again, that's personal choice) lightly sidechai...

Re: Do you think you can make it
Running a record label is EXTREMELY difficult and not just for the obvious reasons. I'm not saying it can't be done, but better be prepare yourself as there's a LOT of work (and I mean A LOT). There's a reason why so many labels fail and only a handful survive. If you're already an established artis...

Watch the Notebook and tell yourself that you'll never know love like those two unless you're a famous musician. 3. Work within limitations. A large percentage of writer's block posts seem to be from people that've been doing this between 2-3 years. At that point most of us have learned and absorbe...

Re: Do you think you can make it
It depends on how each of us define the term "make it" If making it means fame, money, women, etc, I pretty sure majority of us will not fall under the "make it" bracket. But if you consider "making it" simply enjoying the art of creating music, then at the risk of soun...

Re: How to 'Fill'? a track?
Rule of thumb I use Boost wide and cut narrow! Now that's interesting... My rule of thumb is usually "avoid boosting, prefer cutting. Narrow as you head down in frequency, wide as you head up in frequency (since frequency scale is a logarithmic function)"[/quote] I absolutely agree with y...

Re: How to 'Fill'? a track?
This is based strictly on trial and error and some may not agree. Sidechained white noise, solid pads and arps help me fill out the sounds. Pay close attention to between 70 hz -250 hz as this freq can really help fill out the sound, but make sure you don't overdo it as it starts to sound quite mudd...

Dude, you seem hopeless. The truth be told, I've done a lot of due diligence on this topic but I was really looking for on an explanation on something specific and not the traditional "reese" sound that some of the other posts cover. Definitely don't read the reese bass thread then, becau...

Re: Neuro Bass (Koan Sound, Feed Me, Kill the Noise, Noisia)
Hey man, All over the net people push the idea of effects resampling. Adding FX then exporting the sound out, adding FX then bouncing out then repeating. This usually is going to sound really bad. The classic reese is detuned saw waves with a morphing low pass filter opening and closing. That is th...
