Check out Waves LoAir plug in or something like it. It's a sub harmonic generator. It's pretty useless in music because it wouldn't be as clean or musical, but it's used all the time in movies. It sounds like your grid is set to a lower beat denomination than your trying to input. First post on here finally!
OP. I got the Cubase compressor to react better for me for sidechaining by setting the analysis knob to Peak. It defaults toward RMS when you first open it.
