Re: FM8 Focus

Dude, I feel ya. FM8 is not a synth that you walk up to and are flowing through in 10 minutes like Massive is. I had no clue how to make a sound for myself so I forced myself to learn it my making a track entirely out of FM8. It was painful but paid off because FM8 sounds incredible. Waaaaay better...

Re: Reverse Polarity Snare???? (Image Included)

The snare: highpass it. It's probably got low end rumble that doesn't need to be there.

The drums: add a limiter or softclipper, and clip it gently.

Re: Getting fat drums without eating your headroom!

We love fabfilter pro-q and it's our go-to EQ. But go make for yourself a gnarly bass patch. Slam it through your favorite limiter/saturator/whatever. And throw on a highpass filter 24dB/oct at 100hz after the limiter and watch the results.

Re: Getting fat drums without eating your headroom!

It's due to phase shift. Throw a 24 or 48dB/oct highpass (eq or filter, doesn't matter) with neutral resonance on a kick or a snare, or any really loud thing, and you'll see.

Re: What all do you guys compress?

Not a bad policy at all, unless you're compressing simply for the sake of compressing. You need to know what you're actually trying to accomplish with the compression. Compressing every channel and knowing what you're doing is gold. Same goes for limiting.

Re: Filth Dubstep Synths, Metallic Percussion Sounds

Using Absynth's Pipe or Resonator effects can produce a really cool metallic sound.

Re: Getting fat drums without eating your headroom!

Fabfilter Pro-L http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-l-brickwall-limiter-plug-in Get that, put it on your drum bus. Start squashing. In fact, put it on every channel in your mix. Or any mediocre limiter that isn't your DAW's stock limiter. This will allow you to get the levels of everything higher ...
