Re: How do you know when a tune is finished?

I think You have the best answer Think. Knowing what elements you want to put into the track and what you want to achieve beforehand can determine how 'complete' the track feels when you are done with it. Of course sometimes you just want to sit down and bang something out, but setting yourself a gl...

Re: you may be wasting your time

This is true Helagargoyle, BUT your looking at it in the wrong way... Having an image is great, for all types of music. But as you said image is more than the visual, it is a story, a concept, beliefs etc. If you have this it shows that you are true to your craft and not someone that is just doing i...

Re: with/without Compression?

If you are just starting in making music stay away from compression. You don't need to worry about it. Just search for sounds that meet your requirements. Compressors are advanced tools. Even the best stay away from them. If you need to use them try waiting until you are mixing the track down - if y...

Re: Are you using pads?

Competition is very intense in music and to be anybody you have to utterly immerse yourself within it. Just put the hours in. Set yourself daily, monthly and year goals and good luck. When you get to where you wanna be it will be great and you will be more productive than ever.

Re: How do you know when a tune is finished?

But there is always the issue of finding that balance isn't there? I mean you have to be careful that you don't add too much, and then you add too much and get confused and risk fucking up the whole tune. Or, you add too little and keep wondering whether it IS actually enough or whether you need to ...

Re: What is wrong with shit?

Thanks for the reply Jaydot. At the end of the day it's what you want from the music. But, a few soundcloud comments are not gonna help much. What you want is people that can help you mould your sound. A label comes to mind as they understand the industry better than anyone and are likely to help yo...

Re: mixdown as you go or when your finished?

Mix down as you go. Then don't listen to the track for several days - open it up and give it a final mix down. You should only need to do minor tweaks, but they will make all the difference.

Re: How long did it take you to make your first track?

Depends what you mean by finishing a track? Learning to know when a track is done, or rather knowing when it is at a good stage ( demo stage / release stage / Etc ) is one of the greatest skills when producing and can literally take years to learn.

Re: What is wrong with shit?

Hey Jaydot, Maybe the issue with soundcloud is to do with you and not the site. I mean you seem to be expecting things which is not always good in the music game. If people are blown away by your tracks and you have a solid fan base, then they should comment. (slightly off topic) Have you had any re...

Around twenty minutes. If I have to work on it any longer than that I discard the track. 8)

Re: Sourcing Inspiration

I think the thing that drives music producers is the sounds they use and the excitement they have when they use those sounds....so you may need to find sounds that you find exciting before you begin the track. If you can find sounds that you feel excited about using, for whatever reason, then the tr...
